Zoya Color Lock System, Day 1

I couldn't wait to try out my new Zoya Color Lock system, so I painted my nails at 8:00 last night.

So far, not so good.

I followed the instructions exactly. There was no oil on my nails, I waited for my base coat to dry, everything.

The first thing I noticed is that this takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to dry. Like I said, I did my nails at around 8:00 last night, and this morning I could still dent them. I just can't wait that long for my nails to dry, it's not possible. I even used the Hurry Up drops and they did nothing.

The second thing I noticed is the MASSIVE BUBBLING. I have never, ever experienced bubbling this severe. I painted my nails indoors, away from any fans or vents, didn't shake the polish, had no oil on my nails, waited long enough between coats, used thin coats and still, bubbles.

The bubbling didn't appear right away, it started about 10 minutes into the drying process. It's so bad that my nails appear rippled and bumpy. To tell you the truth, I don't think I can keep this on long enough to test the wear. My nails look too awful right now.

See for yourself (click to enlarge and witness absurd bubbling):

This is one coat of Zoya Anchor, two thin coats of Zoya Indigo, one coat of Zoya Armor. It looks like my nails have warts or something. Gross.

But hey, look! Not even a hint of tipwear!

If I can hold out until this chips, you can count on me to post about it. I'm thinking at this point I might have to start over and try it again. I can't deal with the bubbles.

  1. ...but Indigo is gorgeous!! I just wish the multicolored glitter would show better on my nails.

  2. Me too, Tiger! It's like the glitter disappears once it's on your nails. :(

  3. For some reason, I had the same problem with Indigo too. Application was okay, but during the drying time, the surface became all bumpy. I have a couple of other Zoyas but haven't had problems with them. And I was disappointed that Indigo glitter didn't really show on the nails, like Tiger said. It's so nice in the bottle, yet so disappointing on the nails. Love your blog btw Scrangie! -TK

  4. Hey, TK, thanks for the heads up! I think I'll try it again with a different color. Yasmeen has never let me down, so maybe I'll try that instead.

I'm glad you like my blog! :D

  5. I still cannot forgive myself for wasting $20 on that stuff. Did nothing for me, zero, nada.

Their cuticle balm, though, is really good /white in a black jar/. It's on a greasy side, but made wonders for my winter cuticles.

  6. I'm willing to give it another try, but I'm starting to feel nervous about it. I love their polishes, so hopefully it will work out.

Thanks for the cuticle balm suggestion! I was thinking about trying it, and I might give it a try now that I hear it works well :)

  9. Stephanie, yeah I'm not feeling too hopeful... I still don't have any tipwear and it's after midnight, but the bubbling! Oh, the bubbling.

  10. Scrangie,
I'm a new fan, but a rabid fan. Thanks for your blog!

I can't believe that Indigo can look this bad. It's a favorite shade of mine. Thanks for hanging in there and testing this system! I'm with you, though: I don't have that kind of time for drying... and no patience for bubbling. GRRR....

  11. Hey Jen, welcome! I'm glad you like my blog!

I like Indigo too, usually, but I'm not sure what went wrong! I'm still wearing it and so far no tipwear, but I might take it off today because the bubbles are so gross.

    Thanks for reading :)

  12. Oh yes, the bitterness I felt after I wasted all that hard earned she works hard for it cashola on the color lock system. They should rename it "We'll ruin your mani and it'll never dry and hey how do you like those bubbles!?," system. Is that too long? I use my regular base and CS and SV w/ Zoya. I even tried their stupidly expensive fast dry drops and it turned my np a weird color. I love Zoya polish, but their "system" is bad. Very bad. I'm sorry you weren't warned!

  13. Love8Brain, I am such a sucker for a sale. And, well, I guess this is officially day three and there's no tipwear, but my nails look like I painted a toad blue. Bubblefest 2008, now with 50% more dents!
