Cover Girl IceSlicks Anti-Freeze Layered

Now that the Rescue Beauty Lounge spring collection is posted, I can post this! I'm sure it's some sort of crime to layer an old, cheap, chemical filled drugstore glitter over an $18 polish, but that's how I roll.

This is two coats of Cover Girl IceSlicks in Anti-Freeze over one coat of Rescue Beauty Lounge Iconoclast. Feel free to enlarge those. There's this incredibly gorgeous blue glitter in there that you just have to see. Eat your heart out, Starry Starry Night! This is what a real galaxy of stars looks like.

The Cover Girl polish is a sheer blue-green base with some very fine gold-green microglitter and some larger pure blue glitter. It looks fine alone, but when you layer it over something dark, the blue glitter pops out and looks incredible.

It does have the curse of the old-formula polish, though. It doesn't get along well with new-formula (3-free) polishes or treatments and can take an extremely long time to dry fully. It took two whole days for this to dry completely. I didn't use the right topcoat. I should have used Seche Vite but I didn't have it with me. The manicure was set and hard on the top, but the bottom layer was still wet enough that I could put marks on it if I pressed hard enough. Even in spite of this, I still love my old formula polishes. They just don't make colors like this anymore. I haven't seen a polish like this come out at all in the past few years- can you not get this shade of blue glitter anymore? Does it have something to do with the formula change?

One of these days I'm going to swatch more of my old polishes. There used to be so many great colors available at the drugstore... I think we're starting to see a return to less-conservative shades in the mainstream market now, which is awesome. But still, where are my duochromes?! No one has filled the hole that the discontinuation of Nail Prisms has left in my heart...

  3. Jess, Thank you :)

L, thank you :) I can't get enough of that blue glitter!

Rachel Marie, yes! I saw a few at one Dollar tree I went to but they only had colors I already had- good ones, though, like Galactic Green and Midnight Forest!

  4. Interesting color! It actually reminds me of a Nicole by OPI polish that I went out and bought just because of your glowing review of it: Nicole... Spotted! from the Gossip Girl collection. Are they as similar as they seem? That one also looks amazing layered over dark shades.

  8. I have the CG Iceslicks in the gold and it's one of my favorite glitters. I'll have to check the nearest Dollar Tree, but it's very miss out of hit or miss.

  9. I agree with you about drugstore colors, I am generally pretty bored by the selection, except for sally hansen although I feel like those colors are not so much innovative so much as bright. I wonder if the economic downturn has companies who seek a broad aesthetic appeal to stick to classic colors that have consistently sold very well? I noticed revlon's revived fire and ice campaign for example

  10. Dang! That's gorgeous.

I would love to see your older polishes. There was some lovely stuff made a while back. Why can't companies do them, again? *sigh*

  11. God thats pretty. Its got such depth. Iconoclast is probably my favorite from the new RBL collex. But of course, now I have to put Antifreeze on my lemming list too...

  15. OMG. I am SO glad you posted this! I just hauled the biggest Dollar Tree haul of my life and got a couple bottles of the Cover Girl IceSlicks (Anti-Freeze and the yellow one - don't remember the name) and was so mad that it was still dent-able 24 hours after applying. But, I did use Poshe, so I'll have to get some SV to slap on top of it!

Anti-Freeze is SO pretty! Even though your pictures are gorgeous (as per usual!), the glitter is definitely way more sparkly and glowly in real life :)

    Thank you!!

  19. I'm so glad you posted this - Anti-Freeze was one of the polishes I recently picked up at Dollar Tree, and I just haven't gotten around to doing anything with it yet. I'm now so glad I bought it - and since it was in a two pack it cost me a whole 50 cents! This kind of look is definitely worth 50 cents and then some!

  24. You do make your own polish once in a while I gather? If you miss duochrome polishes you should check out the "Travel to..." series of pigments from TKB Trading. The old Sally Hansen Nail Prisms is what they remind me of, made fantastic duochromes when I mixed them with black.

  25. It's like Across the Universe's dark and evil side. LOVE it. Now can someone get a black glitter to look like that without a glitter topcoat???

  26. It really does look like a galaxy! Amazing combo.

  27. i have a sally girl mini that looks very similar to this. the glitter is pretty blue when layered over a dark color. for less than a dollar it does the trick.

  30. Love love love a color like this layered over dark. I just did a blue sparkle over dark blue (Chanel Azur over Blue Satin) and I can't stop looking at my nails, but your combo is even more amazing. I just got Zoya Vegas Freeze and I'm dying to dry that over something dark. Please keep the great reviews and photos coming!
P.S. Love the new RBL colors!
