This year's Essie neons are *much* more neon and bright than last year's shades. In fact, compared next to each other, last year's neons don't even look neon.

  1. Thanks for the comparisons! That was great! I am amazed at all the different shades of the greens. Dang...now I want them all...lol! Even some of the new Essie neons too! I was really hoping for more dupes. So I wouldn't feel like I'm missing out some shades of a color. Shoot!!

  6. Hi Scrangie, love all the comparisons but the green one stands out, which color would be perfect for frankening zulu in your opinion, just add black kind of simple mix?

  7. Velvet, you're welcome :) Haha, I know how you feel! I love them all!

Mary, you're welcome! Zulu is definitely in a class of it's own. The best!

    Lena, you're welcome! :)

Clockwork, I have heard rumblings about it being re-released very soon :)

    Anonymous, you're welcome!

Nora, it's hard to say. The standard Zulu 'recipe' is New York Summer Amaranth with lots of black, but every franken I've made has lacked the richness and jelly-like texture of Zulu. Maybe Amaranth, black, clear and a touch of blue?

  8. That Zulu is so beautiful. I just got Green Goblin the other day. I just love it. Darn, I thought it was close to Zulu. Not a chance.

  9. Thank you very much for the swatches. There's no way of beating it. I will order the UK Rampage. Actually, I'll wait for your other swatches from the brand. LOVE THE COLORS thus far.

  10. Lucy, yeah, unfortunately they're nothing quite like Zulu :(

Crotchfairy, I'm aiming to have them posted tomorrow, I keep getting sidetracked! >.<

  12. Ack, I'm not rushing you. Just saying. If I'm going to spend an arm for shipping I might as well get several.

  13. Question:
I have NY Summer Amaranth, but how can I mix it with the black polish more effectively? I'm having a problem getting them to blend in the bottle!
    Thanks.

  14. Love you FOREVER for these Scrangie. (Now I understand your Tweet...) Haha!

  17. Scrangie,
You're simply the best! The comparision is fantastic! Zulu is the one, unfortunately I don't have it. Why they don't release it?
May I suggest another comparision? I was thinking about a mint one, between peppermint patty and its dupes (if they exist)...
    Thanks!

  18. Edelmc, good choices, those are all great colors!

Crotchfairy, no worries, didn't feel like you were :) I have most of the pictures all ready to go, I just need to get a good shot of the boxes cause they're hot :)

Anonymous, use BBs! You can get a ton of them for $3 in the sporting goods section, just be sure to get steel coated.

Penny, haha thanks! :) I still have (literally) over 100 more colors to do >.<

    Yummy411, why thank you! :D

Anonymous, they are kinda close but not dupes :)

Alice, I think they will be releasing it again soon! :) I can do comparisons of light greens, but so far I haven't found a dupe for Peppermint Patti :(

  19. I know this has been said a million times but Zulu CAN be frankened :) Just add clear nail polish and black to a green nail polish. It worked for me, it was almost as accurate as the pictures :] If yours doesn't turn out close, add more black.

  21. Hi Scrangie,

Now that i have fallen for Strawberry Fields I cant source it anywhere - do you know any dupes from OPI, China Glaze or Essie. Also, how do Essies Neons 09 compare with China Glazes neons?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks sooo much for the swatches! For the next round how about some comparisons all around Nubar Pasadena Purple ? :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous, I've never been able to make an exact match but I'm sure it can be done!

    Sprinkles, you're welcome!

Edelmc, I think some of the websites still have it, I'm sorry :( I can't think of an exact match- Zoya Katy is kinda close. The Essie '09 Neons aren't much like the China Glaze ones, the Essies have superior formula and drying time and they're much brighter :)

Linda, you're welcome! I'll get to work on that :)

  24. These comparisons look great! I am curious if Perky Purple is similar to China Glaze's Purple Panic?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Denette, thank you! They're not similar at all, Purple Panic is seriously weak! lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOVE the green comparisons -- when you get the chance (no rush!) can you add in Blackboard and whatever new dark greens are out (Nubar's one and Zoya Envy, and whatever else)? Thanks!! I need more greens... :D
