It's growing on me... Fourth and Fifth tries with The Falsies Mascara

I've been forgetting to take pictures of my makeup every day! I wanted to show the process of this mascara evolving from 'suck' to 'pretty good.' I used it again yesterday and you know what? I actually kinda liked it. It was chunky-textured but much better! It's weird how each time I use this it gets less clumpy and adds more volume. Weird. Here's #4 and #5.

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
MAC Sugarshot on lid
L'Oreal HIP Platinum silver side, just a tiny hint dabbed on middle of lids
MAC Bell-Bottom Blue in crease
MAC Blue Storm in crease and lower lashline
MAC Copper Sparkle pigment applied wet as liner
Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Mascara

Another attempt to use more blue eyeshadow. I was afraid this was going to turn out really frosty-80's-tacky blue eyeshadow but it ended up looking kinda beachy and ghostly... kinda sheer and shimmery with a whisper of color... very unusual for me and quite outside my comfort zone. I did like it, though... Maybe blue is becoming more comfortable for me...

And see how the mascara looks less like insect legs and more like eyelashes now? Definitely getting better the more the tube dries out...

Except this time it clumped my lashes together more! I did comb them, but you can only comb so much before it takes off too much mascara and you have to start over!

This was:
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Evil Shades Heartless Queen on lid
Evil Shades Devil's Bonfire in crease and on upper and lower lashline
Don't remember what I used for highlight
Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Mascara

I'm in love with Evil Shades Heartless Queen. It's a bright red matte with a little bit of subtle silver sparkle thrown in... The sparkles are on the larger side so they're not the main focus of the shadow- it looks like a matte red with silver accents. I like it very much. And Devil's Bonfire is SUPER black. I've been looking for a blacker-black and this one is really, really black. And not just black, but black with holo glitter. Sadly, I couldn't get the holo glitter to stay on my eye, I'll have to use it differently next time to keep the glitter in there...

So... what do you think? Should I still chuck it? It's getting less clumpy and chunky every time I use it so maybe I should hold out another week or so. It's still no Cover Girl Lash Blast, but... it has a gimmick and I wanted to try it! And I'm always looking for new beauty products to try. Plus, the tube is purple.

  1. I love the second look, well, the one with the red and black, it's really lovely and you seem to pull it off pretty well, lucky girl. I emailed you some days ago about finding a black eyeshadow with holo, I have my answer, thank you :)

  2. I have Falsies and I actually really like it! Its never been chunky to me, but who knows...you could have just ended up with a bad tube of it. I, however do feel that when I first started using it that it gave me more volume and now not as much. That could be that I've just gotten used to it and so tht halo effect is now gone. Overall, I really like it and it my purse mascara, so i always have it with me. Get the job done pretty good I must say.

  4. Personally I'd chuck the Maybeline and the Cover Girl. Products that test on animals are fail. :( Everytime I see the Cover Girl commercials with Drew Berrymore I want to throw waffles at my tv.
I use Medusa Mascara (black, green, purple, blue). I know Revlon doesn't test on animals, or use products tested on animals... so that one is ok in my books too.
    WTB red mascara!!

  5. Really love Heartless Queen. I wasn't sure how good a red would be on the eyelid. Well it looks wonderful. I really love the whole look. I'm not crazy about that mascara. Have you ever tried the book by Paula Begoun, Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me? I don't agree with everything she says. It's a helpful book.

  6. Mascara is always a tricky beast for me. With the right ine though, I can get away with just 2 swipes all over. I've had some that I wasn't satisfied with 2 so I do it again and again and again.....hoping it would come through and then guess what? You got it, it clumps cause I overdid it.

    It looks lovely on you.

  8. Mascara is too personal. I've read so many times how much people hate The Falsies but I love it! It works perfectly for me - no more need to use 2 different mascaras to achieve desired effect (which is what I had to do before). I should note that I use the waterproof kind as wp tends to do a better job of holding a curl.

I didn't like it at first because I didn't get any volume but I learned how to use the "spoon brush" the second time to get more volume.

  9. Both looks are gorgeous but I'd so chuck that mascara. I am OCD about clumpy mascara. You'll never believe me but after years of HE mascara's I am now having a full on affair with Wet n wilds new volume mascara!

  10. Hey Scrangie,
Have you tried sticking the tube in hot water for a minute or two before you apply? Just run the tap on hot for a few seconds, fill a cup, and stick the tube in so the wand area heats up. The warmth thins out the mascara and it goes on much easier. I heard about using this trick to thin down and use mascara when it's nearly run out, but I like it so much, I warm up any mascara's I have that go on too thick and clumpy - works every time!

  11. I'm on the verge of throwing away my falsies. Its just more trouble than it's worth, to me. And. I. LOVE that red/black look!! I see I'm going to have to pick up Devil's Bonfire too!

  12. Love, love the looks!! I think you are giving the Falsies a far shake. If you are iffy on whether to ditch it, hold on to it til you know for sure.
I have it and actually love it.

  15. You're so good at makeup.
And I think you should give the Falsies some more time.
The first few times I used mine, it sucked too.
But now I love it...it makes my lashes look so lush and full. To combat clumps and spideriness, I use an old lashblast wand (clean of mascara) to like...comb my lashes between coats. That helps keep the lashes separated and neat.

  16. I LOVE these looks!!! I'm pick with my mascara...I think yours looks good but if you're not happy with it, toss it. Nothing more frustrating than irritating mascara for me!
