OPI India Collection for Spring 2008 Swatches

The Spring 2012 collections have all started coming out already... But I'm in the mood for reminiscing. Remember the OPI India collection from Spring 2008? That was another one that I went crazy over when it came out. Black Cherry Chutney. Royal Rajah Ruby. Such amazing colors. I loved the collection so much, I even bought the cardboard display it came on. Do you have any of these?

OPI Black Cherry Chutney.

OPI Charmed by a Snake.

OPI Curry Up, Don't Be Late.

OPI Elephantastic Pink.

OPI Get Me To The Taj on Time.

OPI I'm Indi-a Mood For Love.

OPI Keys To My Karma.

OPI Lunch at the Delhi.

OPI Mon-sooner or Later.

OPI Moon Over Mumbai.

OPI Royal Rajah Ruby.

OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue!

Another thing I remember about the OPI India collection... all the brushes were defective! The bristles are all frayed and bent and sticking out everywhere. Combined with the thinner than usual formula on these, they weren't that much fun to apply. Luckily, OPI's formula and brushes are much more consistent now and I rarely have trouble with them anymore. But, despite its flaws, I liked this collection when it came out and I still do.

  6. I have a bunch of these- Black Cherry Chutney, Moon Over Mumbai, Charmed by a Snake, Elephantastic Pink and Royal Rajah Ruby. I just wore Black Cherry Chutney a few days ago and still LOVE IT! I'd say this was my favorite OPI collection besides Russia. Russia is always number 1 for me!

  12. I recently got Keys to my Karma in a swap, it's a beautiful red, almost jelly-like.
    Love your pictures, as usual!

  13. I've only got two - Yogata Get This Blue and Moon over Mumbai - but I think I'm good with those. Curry Up Don't Be Late is more gold and less yellow-ish than I thought it might be, but still...I don't think it will work fantastically with my skintone.

  14. I love this collection, but sadly, I don't have any of the polishes. I always keep an eye out for the Rajah and Chutney ones on eBay, but no luck finding them on the cheap. They are so lovely, though!

  15. Hey Scrangie - I too loved this collection - Royal Rajah Ruby and Black Cherry Chutney were my favorite shades and Elephantastic Pink is the almost neon pink I always reach for when I am in the mood for a eyecatching not-your-average-bubblegum-pink! It always gets me compliments and OPI should do more shades like Royal Rajah Ruby and Black Cherry Chutney!! They are so gorgeous looking and that duochrome flash gives it a lovely twist - and the names are also proof that OPI can give their polish decent (not cringe inducing) names :) Oh and the formula on mine was PERFECT. I cant wait for Holland collection though :)
Lush swatches as always Scrangie - you know how to brighten my day :) xxx

  16. Does anybody know why OPI marks their bottles by grinding out a line in the glass like that? I always thought it was when they sent them to discount stores so you couldn't return them and get full price back, but I've always wondered!?

    1. It's actually not OPI doing it. When you get bottles with the serial numbers scratched off (that's what the line is), it means you're buying "diverted" product. Basically, places that sell OPI with the serial numbers scratched out are not licensed to sell OPI. OPI only wants their product to be sold through authorized salons and retailers, so places scratch out the serial number so the bottles can't be traced back to a source (either the place selling them, or the supplier they got them from).

    2. Really!? That's so interesting. I hate buying OPI at Target because of the scrapes on the bottle, who knew! (You, obviously...)

  23. Charmed by a Snake is really out of my character (I think colors like that don't go well with my skin tone), but I absolutely LOVE it. It totally sticks out the most to me out all of these. Thanks for sharing!

  24. I have Royal Rajah Ruby and love it but you got me drooling over Get me to the Taj on Time, it's stunning

  25. I have 5 of this collection. Agree - it was a good one. Not enough made it into the classic wall. Designers still pick out the 2 reds in this collection to use on runway shows a lot of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have Mon-sooner or Later. It's the best red ever!

  27. Moon Over Mumbai and Charmed by a Snake are stunning!

  28. I have at least 6 of the 12. 2008 was a great year for OPI. I need to replace my bottle of Black Cherry Chutney because it's almost gone. I love this collection!

  29. I have Charmed By A Snake and Curry Up, Don't Be Late. The brushes are fine on mine.

  30. I remember this collection very well! :) The colours are lovely, but I only ended up getting Charmed by a Snake, I'm Indi-a Mood For Love, and Royal Rajah Ruby back then. Out of those 3, I only really fell in love with the last one - sexy!

  31. Oh...man...I must have the jewel-tones...especially Black Cherry Chutney. You're mean for posting these - I want that one so, so bad now!!

  32. It's amazing that you can keep your cuticles stain-free and not drying while swatching sooo much!!

  33. This is a beautiful collection. I have to check & see what I have. Are any of these still available? I hope so. Many beauties in this group. I always use your blog as a reference. Great to see so many polishes featured. I love that you show older collections. So many just feature the latest collections. I want to see older polishes whether they're still available or not.

  34. Wow fun flashback! These are all near and dear to me because I was just starting to really get into nail polish when this collection came out.

  35. OMG I LOVE LUNCH AT THE DELHI! I just can't seem to find it anywhere in stores =[ I always get it done for my mani or pedi whenever I am at my spa though. I think I'll just give in and order it off Amazon or something. I do however, own Moon Over Mumbai and it's a gorgeous purpley grey.

  36. The OPI Black Cherry Chutney and Royal Rajah Ruby practically make my mouth water, they are stunning.

  37. This was one of my fave collections as well. I have 5 shades from this collection. Lunch at the Dehli, Moon Over Mumbai, Get Me to the Taj on Time, Mon-sooner or Later (my favorite summer coral), and Yoga-Ta Get This Blue! (one of my faves of all times; it's the perfect blackened blue). Black Cherry Chutney is just plain gorgeous! I still need to get my hands on that one.

  38. I have I'm Indi-a Mood For Love and Elephantastic Pink-- Indi-a Mood for Love was my first OPI :)

  39. how many coats are you wearing for Moon Over Mumbai? I purchased this a while back, but have never worn it because I fear it will be too sheer. It looks great in your photos!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm pretty sure it's either four or five very thin coats. That one was really sheer, but since it is so thin, I can get away with doing 4+ coats without it taking too long to dry. But yeah, it's a very sheer color, just a head's up!
