L'Oreal VIP Status

Saw a new display of L'Oreal nail polishes the other day. I don't know if the shades are all new or not, but I never noticed them before. This was the only one that caught my eye, so it came home with me.

L'Oreal VIP Status. On my nails, it's a blackened teal shimmer, borderline frost. The reason I got it is because it looked like it had a strong purple duochrome in the bottle, but maybe it was the store lighting or just my eyes playing tricks on me, but I see zero purple in this color when it's on my nails. It's still pretty, but in the bottle it looked more like a teal-on-brownish purple duochrome, sort of like MAC Club eyeshadow, but bluer.

Application was okay, formula was a little thin but not too bad. The brush was squared at the bottom so it wasn't as easy to get a nice curve with it, but it's definitely not the worst drugstore brush or formula I've ever used.

  1. That reminds me of the new Essie Dive Bar. I saw a big purple shift in the bottle, but definitely not on the nails. While it was pretty, I was so disappointed.

It's such a let down after all the work on a manicure to not get what you see in the bottle.

    1. I know thposts an old post, but I came across it when googling swatches of this L'Oreal polish. If there's any chance you see this comment, you should try Epoch by the new brand called Cirque. It's an amazing teal/purple duochrome with a strong shift on the nail. After drooling over tons of swatches online, I ordered mine and it should be in my hot little hands very soon, I can't wait! :)

  2. This reminds me of Essie Dive Bar, especially with the whole 'purple duochrome in the bottle got lost completely on the nail' thing.

  3. Alamode and All The Pretty Polish, you're right! I have Essie Dive Bar and while I do like it, I was sad about the lack of purple duochrome on the nail.

  4. MAC Club <33
That is a very nice color - L'Oreal always seems to have one eye-catching color (i.e., Owl's Night in Project Runway's collection) at a time though.
That is sad about the purple duochrome. Unless my eyes deceive me, the second picture looks like it has really tiny purple microglitters in it, but it totally doesn't translate onto the nail.

  7. I've actually had a couple of other polishes that I swore I saw purple shifts in when I bought them, but not when I used them. Can't remember which right now, but I wonder if it has something to do with the materials the bottles are made of. Because I can totally see the purple in the bottle on all three pictures above, but not in the polish itself. It's totally disappointing.

    1. I was wondering that myself... It sorta looked like the sticker had a purple hue to it last night... Had to stare at it for a while. I have a lot of polishes with the false duochrome thing going on, such a bummer!

    2. You know what, Owl's Night had that same faded purplish sticker, because I really took a close look at that.

  8. I saw this display yesterday at Target. They had a pretty grey that I was looking at, but I passed because I have sooooo many greys right now. I don't think I saw this color, it's really nice. Thanks for the swatch!

  11. This is a beautiful color, but I'm thinking I've seen a color, maybe a few colors, similar to it. That sucks about the purple not showing up, but it's still a nice shade.

  12. Oh kind of looks like a dupe for Chanel Black Pearl? Just me? Pretty.

  13. HauteBeautyBargain and Daly Beauty, ooh, does it? I don't have Chanel Black Pearl, but I do have the supposed Revlon dupe, I just haven't tried it yet.

  14. I think it has too much blue in it to be a close cousin to Chanel (or Revlon dupe) for Black Pearl.

I have not seen (around me that is) L'Oreal Polish for a good year or longer. It's just not stocked anywhere in the area of the HUGE state I live in. We get the skin and hair products - not the nail line.

  15. I only have a few L'Oreal polishes. Recent acquisitions. Pretty shade but it looks like something else I've seen.

  16. Lots of deja-vu for this shade! To me, it looks like Color Club Voodoo You Do from these pics!
