New Year Sunset Eye

Now that Christmas is over, the worst part of the year has begun. That period between Christmas and the beginning of spring, where everything is cold, grey and bleak. People are starting to take down their Christmas lights. There are no leaves on the trees. It's windy and bitter cold. And currently, there's no snow to make the dead, frozen ground look any nicer.

So I needed something bright to lift my spirits. New Year's Day I had a neon pink and purple look, and the next day I did this tropical sunset looking one. It's like a less bright and non-matte version of this one.

This was:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
NYX White Eyeshadow Base (lid only)
Ben Nye Sun Yellow on inner lid
Make Up For Ever #18 in center of lid
Ben Nye Azalea in crease and mid lower lashline
Make Up For Ever #92 in crease and outer lower lashline
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof liner in Black
Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara

I'm really liking the NYX White Eyeshadow Base. So far I haven't had any creasing, but I've always used it over a primer and with powder shadow on top, never alone. It works so well for getting bright mattes to stick that it's really inspired me to use them more lately. It really grabs onto the color and keeps it there all day (and all night if you sleep in it, oops).

  3. Wow, finally someone who understands me. ^^ I hate that time also. I love christmas lights. And I hate when people taking them down. So I thought the same, too. Put bright colors on yourself. xD

  5. beautiful, as always :P

How do you find the NYX works with other shadows? Glitters, shimmers..? I was thinking about picking some up, but almost all my shadows are shimmers.

  6. Absolutely stunning! Love that you are using Ben Nye. I was reminded of that line at Christmas and was watching Miracle on 34th Street and guess who did the makeup for the movie? Ben Nye. Too cool.

  10. This is gorgeous but I have to ask...what outfit did you pair with this?? I'd be so intimidated by such a bright eye look.

  11. Just simply beautiful! I'm glad to know that the NYX base work. I'm almost bought it but decided not to place the order. I've been buying so much makeup. I was going to order so many things from CherryCulture.com. That base was in my order. Maybe another time.

  12. I'm with you, this time of year is sooo ugly, every time the snow melts its all muddy and gross! On a different note, I wish I could do my eyes like this, you are so good! If I tried this it would look like my 2 yr old fingerpainted my face!

  15. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU so much everyone! <3 <3 <3

Stream27, I haven't tried it with many normal eyeshadows yet, but it seemed to work well with a shimmery loose pigment and the shimmery Ben Nye yellow. It really grabs onto whatever you put over it, so I can see it getting clumpy with certain shimmer or frost textured eyeshadows. But for mattes and loose pigments it's great!

Victoria, it hasn't creased on me, but I use it over primer. It's really sticky so I can definitely see it creasing badly if worn alone.

Nailspark, my usual uniform (lol): Black sweater, black pants, black boots. Silver jewelry. :)

Emspirations, wow, really? Thank you for the huge brow compliment! I have a little brow powder (I think I used the dark brown Anastasia one here but I also use Urban Decay and Smashbox frequently) applied with a tiny slanted brush, and then brushed through with a little Anastasia clear brow gel to hold them in place.

  19. your eye looks are always so beautiful and this is definately no exception, I keep trying to sum up the courage to face the world with something bold and cheery, but usually end up wiping most of it off and going back to sighing wistfully at your georgous pics :o)
