OPI Miss Universe Collection Summer 2011

Another impressive mini collection from OPI this year. I loved Nice Stems, I really loved Glam Slam! USA, and I have to say I'm rather fond of this one, too. Almost makes me forget about the dreary fall collection colors this year.

Anyway, this one is supposed to coincide with next month's Miss Universe competition, but I'll keep my mouth shut on that topic.

OPI Congeniality Is My Middle Name. These berry type shades are so hard to photograph properly. I don't think I captured any of the gorgeous micro-glass fleck duochrome sparkle in this. It's a little too berry-colored for me color-wise, but the finish is beautiful. It reminds me of The One That Got Away from the Katy Perry collection, but it lacks the silvery microglitter. Berry-purple/magenta jelly base with awesome sparkles.

OPI Crown Me Already! This is a silver glitter, but not just a plain silver glitter. It's a small silver glitter base with some gigantic silver hexagon-shaped glitter. The giant hex glitter gives this a super awesome treasure chest effect. You know... when you watch those movies where they open a treasure chest and it's just piled to the top with diamonds and coins and jewelry? That's what this looks like to me. I love this look. Plus, it's very opaque/dense and extremely shiny so it's pretty close to perfect. It could be a little smoother, but I don't mind doing an extra coat of topcoat.

OPI Crown Me Already! over Swimsuit... Nailed It!. In my opinion, this is too opaque for layering. This is one very thin coat and it almost entirely covers the base color. Might look better over black, but I really prefer it all by itself.

OPI It's MY Year. This is a red-grape purple jelly base with large particle gold foil shimmer. It's very, very similar to colors like Zoya Faye and OPI Rally Pretty Pink. I haven't compared them side-by-side to see how close the base colors are, but the finish is identical.

OPI Swimsuit... Nailed It!. This is a rich blue foil. It's very blue and not silvery looking at all. Awesome color, looks really close to the Nicole shade A New Kind Of Blue from last summer.

The formula on these was pretty good. It was thinner than I liked, but the only one that gave me any trouble was Congeniality Is My Middle Name. That one was too runny. The others were manageable. I did three coats of all the colors but only Congeniality It's MY Year needed the third. Great dry time.

I'm loving these glitter-and-glass fleck-heavy mini collections. A few of these look like they might be re-releases of or at least similar colors to previous OPI and Nicole shades, but other than that, I have no complaints about the color selection. The formula could have been a little thicker, but now I'm just splitting hairs. Overall, this is a great little set, especially if you don't already have Zoya Faye/OPI Rally Pretty and Nicole A New Kind Of Blue. My favorite is the silver glitter!

  5. I also immediately noticed the way too close of similarity with Rally Pink and It's My Year - really sad as coming from the same company - they KNOW what they have released and should not give us this close of a color esp in the same year. Rally Pink has more gold flash in it - but basically they are the same shade.Zoya's Faye is my fav of the 3 as it blends all the shades more evenly. The one in this set can show more bold on the lavender due to a tish less gold in it than Rally Pink has. Agree - it's hard to catch photos of the beauty of Congeniality. I am more of a fan if one wants a pretty bright blue now to go with Peacock in the Orly Fall collection vs Swimsuit from OPI shown here. I feel like you said, we have seen this same blue around. For those blue fans they will love it and need it. But for those who are more picky on which blues to add to their collection, this could be a pass if you take a look at what's in your stash already.

  7. I've worn and loved It's My Year (hehe, I'm weird, but it annoys me how it's officially called It's MY Year). And Swimsuit...Nailed It! is also gorgeous. Those are the only two I bought from this collection.

Gorgeous swatches as always, Scrangie! :) You always have me coming back for more.

  11. Swimsuit... IS a gorgeous blue! But it stained the heck out of my nails, even with a base coat! Taking it off led to stains all over my fingers... beautiful blue but I have to think twice before using it.

  16. I'm wearing Crown Me Already over It's My Year right now. You're right that it's a little heavy for layering but I am LOVING this combo. You should give it a shot!

  18. I love Crown Me Already! And I wonder if It's MY Year is similar to Meet Me On The Star Ferry? It looks like they'd be pretty close.

  19. I only have two OPI polishes (well, one of them I'm sending off to a friend as soon as she stops jetting all over the Western hemisphere, but still). I've been resisting the brand for awhile for various reasons. However, I saw your swatches of Crown Me Already! this morning, and instantly a lemming was born. So when I found myself at Ulta with a 20% off coupon, I HAD to buy it.
    I regret nothing.

  21. I really wanted Congeniality is my Middle Name, but both of my go to stores had bottles that did not have ballz. All the bottles had the lovely shimmery goodness laying at the bottom with no amount of shaking changing it. I got the other 3 and I'm wearing Swimsuit, Nailed It--love it! I was sad to notice the similarity between Rally Pink and Its My Year, not good Suzi!!!

  25. OPI It's MY Year is also very near a Pixel brand polish. I compared them at Ulta, and the Pixel polish's shimmer is finer and less noticeable, but the base color was dead on.

thanks so much for these swatches, beautiful as always!
