China Glaze Crackle Glaze Collection for Spring 2011

I've been so bored/burned out with nail polish lately, but seeing these arrive on my doorstep totally perked me up! These are amazing. Definitely worth getting excited about. If you're into the crackle finish, you'll love these for sure. I personally love having more color options for layering. So excited to post these...

You can use them over any color or finish you want, I just used what I had nearby and I think the layering combinations turned out pretty nice!

Black Mesh (over China Glaze Happy Go Lucky). Standard black crackle finish. Crackles really quickly, absolutely flawless.

Broken Hearted (over Color Club Bizerk Turq). This is a new one to me- pink crackle! Beautiful candy pink crackle. I think it looks amazing over the neon turquoise, but I have so many ideas for layering this. I want to try it with yellow and orange next!

Cracked Concrete (over Essie Nice is Nice). Medium grey crackle. About the same color as China Glaze Recycle, just in a crackle finish! This one looks really good over pastel pink, too, but I wanted to try it over pastel purple to see how it looked. Looks good to me!

Crushed Candy (over Essie French Affair). This may be my favorite of all of them. It's a light turquoise blue, along the same lines as China Glaze For Audrey. Love this over the pastel pink. It reminds me of Saved By The Bell or something... 1940's-50's kitchens?

Fault Line (over China Glaze Midnight Kiss). This is a lovely royal purple shimmer color with a crackle finish. Also, note how it's not very crackled looking. This is why you have to wait for your polish to dry before you apply the crackle! But even doing that, this color still doesn't seem to crackle as much as any of the others:

This is it over completely dry polish and it didn't crackle like the rest. Maybe because this is the thickest of all of them, or because something about the shimmer in the color interferes with the crackling action?

Lightning Bolt (over... actually, I don't remember what color this was... Eep!). A white crackle! This one is more sheer so you will see some of the base color through it. Also:

Anyway...

The formula on these is good! They're not normal polish so you can't really compare it to a normal polish formula. They are thick and you have to apply them quickly because they dry even faster than mattes. They crackle quickly and perfectly and they remove easily, unlike the old-school crackle polishes. They dry matte, so you'll need a topcoat. I used topcoat in my pictures (except for the second picture of Fault Line).

I used a sort of random application technique on some of these to try to get a different shape happening. I like the vertical crackle lines, but I also like bigger random chunks of crackle too! These are really fun to play with. I adore crackle polishes and these make me so happy!

They're available now, online and at Sally!

(These were sent to me for review.)

  1. I like the pastel purple with the gray over it, and that turquoise color with the white crackle. Thanks for the swatches, last time I checked my Sallys they didn't have it- maybe I'll stop by today (:

  3. Omg! I was totally thinking Saved by the Bell when I saw the Crushed Candy picture! Thats so funny.!

This collection has me excited! I was so sad that I didn't get to buy OPI's Black Shatter in time. I was broke when they came out, and I live in a small town so the only place that sold it said they ran out of it real quick. So now I can buy a black crackle polish and many other colors! Sally's here I come!! :D

  7. I asked my former boss at Sally about if they'd had these in yet last week, and she said they won't be out until March(same as Tronica!). I couldn't wait that long, so ordered mine online..now I'm playing the waiting game.

Official release is March, but most stores will have them 1-2 weeks before that stuffed in the back room. If they're nice(or needing the sales) they'll usually go ahead and sell it(from what I hear the company's big on making the sale lately).

  8. I wonder what would happen if you layered one crackle polish on top of another... like this: colored base, crackle color #1, topcoat, crackle color #2, topcoat. I bet it would look awesome, if it worked! Any chance you can try it out and show us the results? Thanks!

  16. Maybe now that these are out, there won't be such overwhelming demand for OPI's crackle. I just want one from somebody, anybody!

  17. Cool! I missed out on OPI Black Shatter too. This is nice. I also want the silver shatter polish OPI is released with that Pirate of the Caribbean collex.

  22. Like you said, I think my favorite is Crushed Candy. So many brands are coming out with Crackle polishes nowadays and they're all so similar, what it comes down to when choosing which brand to pick will be the uniqueness of the color.

Colors like Crushed Candy are unique and will probably make me lean towards CG for crackle polish :)

  23. I like Black Mesh, Crushed Candy and Broken Hearted. It's fun how you can play with different basecolors to make it your own.

  24. I'm so excited for these! I ordered the whole collection! :D Crushed Candy looks like it's going to be my favorite too. I love the color and can imagine pairing it with so many polishes. I adore the name too - Crushed Candy, mmm. I love your color combinations! What do you find is the best technique for application? I'm looking for the best way to get good sized chunks of crackle while also getting a good amount of spacing between the crackles. Basically I'm looking for the best way to show off both colors that I'm wearing, the base color and the crackle. TIA!

  26. Your crackles, especially Lightning Bolt, cracked so well! For me, not so much. Lightning Bolt was just streaky.

  27. I really like the cracks you got from the Lightening Bolt and Crushed Candy. I can't quite figure out how to get big cracks like this consistently. I either got tiny cracks or big blobby weird ones. Any suggestions?

  29. I was hoping you could help me with this.

I have a bit of a problem, I can only seem to get the black one to work on me. It crackles nicely and the way it should. However, no matter what method I do of applying the other five, they just don't crack the same way. Some of them I'm lucky if I can even get a slightly crack out of them. What am I doing wrong? you have such beautiful swatches of them, and I just want them to work.

  30. Hey Alishia! First thing I can suggest is to shake them really well (at least 30 seconds of shaking) before you use them and see if that helps. Second, be sure to use them over completely dry polish as that helps them crackle faster. They don't seem to want to crackle much over wet polish. Also, try to get the crackle polish on in as few strokes as possible, re-wetting the crackle too much seems to prevent good cracks from forming. Let me know if any of these tips help!
