My official Valentine's Day manicure

I had this idea in my head for a while, so I decided to finally try it as it was perfectly suited for Valentine's Day:

But it didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped! This is a base of Essie French Affair with the new Art Club Nail Glam full nail decal design Hearts of Gold on the ring finger. I originally wanted to put the designs on every finger, but I'm really glad I started with my ring finger. Now I know what you guys were saying about these. They're... not so great. They're extremely stiff and don't conform to the natural curve of the nail, so you end up with weird lumps and wrinkles like you see on mine. And they say to seal them with topcoat, but the decal covers the whole nail so it's really not sealing it to the nail, it's just coating it with topcoat, which means... it peels. Gah, what a disappointment. I loved the design so much, too. I wish I could have made it work.

The Essie polish was exactly the color I was thinking of for the base of the mani, so that worked out well!

But yeah, too bad about the Art Club Glam decals. I had really high hopes for them. *sigh*

So, how was your Valentine's day? So what if it's a Hallmark holiday! That does not negate the awesomeness of heart-shaped sugar cookies with pink frosting! And sprinkles! Any holiday that advocates the liberal use of sprinkles is a winner in my book.

  1. So pretty! That color pink is like the perfect pink icing on a heart cookie pink!! Too bad about the decal-it is really cool though!

  2. Thanks for sharing, even if the decals didn't turn out to be awesome! That pink base is wonderful. My Valentine's went well, I was busy with lots of school things and then had a coffee date. :)

  5. That's too bad about the decal, it does look like it had the potential to be really cute :(.

However you have totally inspired me to get that nail polish x_x, I've been looking for something just like it but whenever I got something (ok so I have like 1 color, whatever) it was waaaay too sheer. I <3 Pastels.

  6. I had a hard time with the decals too. Erika was kind enough to send some for review and I tried my best but I won't put them up if I don't really like them. Overall though, I love Color Club so I was so bummed they didn't work out. Not a fan of pink but I like this!!!

  10. You know, normally I wouldn't even look twice at this shade of pink but for some reason I want it. Now. I also like the contrast of the soft creamy pink with the shiny metallic of the decal. It's a neat idea even if it didn't turn out as planned.

  11. i had issues with the decals also. i thought it was my application because i was in a hurry, but i guess not.

they did work out very well for my toes, which aren't curved as much. maybe that will work for you too.

  13. I adore your positive take on Valentine's Day. I spent much of yesterday either laughing at the self-pity jokes of other single friends, or feeling sad for the ones who really hate the day because of their relationship status. I, personally, just love the clearance candy that I'm going to buy tomorrow!

  14. Very Valentine's Day appropriate - bummer that the decals are so stiff! Dang! Cuz that pattern IS very pretty (and I don't even LIKE hearts!)... But it still looks great.

Wore OPI Teenage Dream yesterday (did you mention it's as thick as oh... I don't know... Jell-o?? Can't remember your review!). I looked at my nails at one point & asked my husband in horror "What has happened to me???!". LOL! Up until about 5 years ago I wouldn't TOUCH anything pink - clothing, polish, etc.! Way too frou-frou! Ah, how times change! ;)

    It's a pity that the decal hasn't a good quality :(

  17. I've never tried full-nail decals, and now I know not to start with these for my first time. I wonder if blasting them with a blowdryer would help them flex--or maybe that would just make a big melted mess.

  18. How disappointing! It was really pretty too!

  19. So sweet! Love that Essie polish.
