Givenchy Vernis Please! Purple By Night

I'm back! Did anyone miss me? Hee hee.

Let's talk about Givenchy Purple By Night.

When I first saw this beauty on, I knew I had to have it. It seemed like the purple polish to end all purple polishes. That little product shot on showed the most mesmerizing purple that ever existed- deep but not blackened, loaded with mother of pearl, iridescent and holographic particles. It looked like the Milky Way.

My hopes and expectations were sky-high for this polish. This is what I got:

Givenchy Purple By Night.

A sparkly blackened purple.

The polish was out of stock for what seemed like an eternity. I kept the page open on and clicked reload over and over again until one day the "Add to cart" button appeared! Hurray!! Finally, it was mine!

I was sooooo disappointed when I finally wore this. Yes, I like it, it's a pretty nice color, but it's not amazing! There are no fireworks! No depth! Just flat, almost black sparkly purple. You really only get the full effect of the sparkle under bright lights.

I was hoping this would be the purple version of Givenchy Dandy Moire, which was incredible, unique and stunning. It's not.

It's not a bad polish. It's quite pretty. The formula is a little weird- it's super thick, which makes it a bit harder to apply, and takes a long time to dry even with Seche Vite on top.

If this didn't cost $15, I wouldn't have a problem. But for a .18 oz bottle of polish that's not amazing, the price is absurd. For reference, OPI minis are .13 oz. This is slightly more polish than an OPI mini. That's more than $80 AN OUNCE. That's like buying a regular bottle of OPI that costs more than $40. INSANE!!! Would you pay $40 for a bottle of OPI that you didn't love?

I'm going to try to mix my own version of Givenchy Purple By Night and see how it turns out. Right now it looks to me like OPI Who Are You Wearing with a coat of sparkly topcoat, maybe like Misa Lolli Jolly or Confection Section.

  1. OMG your price comparison made my jaw actually drop. Not cool. These super high end brands just seem to disappoint lately. >:( Grrr. How dare they toy with our hearts!

  3. You've been missed! /inappropriate smooches/ How was your vacation?

I frankened my own purple and love it much better than Givenchy.

  4. Oh cool, you saved me another unnecessary purchase Scrangie! I was sad when this nail polish was sold out on the sephora website during F&F. Good to know I'm not missing out on much. I'm interested in hearing what frankens people come up with!

  5. I had the opposite feeling you did about this one actually. I loved it and declared it purple of the year! My bottle wasn't too thick either it went on really nicely. Maybe you got a bad one? I totally agree with you about the price though, it's outlandish to pay that much for that little. But then again their clothes are the same way, as are all designer items. I'm glad you're back hope you had a fab vacay!

  6. I refuse to buy this cuz it's just too darn small!
And yes, for the record, you were missed. :)

  7. Ugh! Expensive disappointment, does it get any worse?
    Too bad!

  8. Welcome back, Scrangie! :) I was going to buy it a while ago. Had it in my cart, but then I couldn't bring myself to buy it because of the price. I'm still on the fence because I'm CRAZY about purples, and that purple looks beautiful! I think I'll put it on my Christmas wish list...if the polish is even still available then. I've never bought designer nail polish, so I don't know how quick limited editions sell out.

  9. True, it's really nice and pretty and all but not wawawoom-stunning.

I'm so jealous of your purdy nails;D

  10. welcome back!! *hugs*
wow that sucks. i hate disappointing nps! i cant believe that price comp-definetly makes me rethink wanting to buy any of those tiny bottles for tthat much $ :/ i had to franken my own $opi never enough shoes because the $opi was so blah. mine was way better! im sure ur version will blow this givenchy out of the water!

  11. Well I missed ya :) I was hoping it was a purple version of Dandy Moire too :( zooks. Oh well. Also would you know that the score is with the limited edition Lancome Le Magnetique polish called Blue Enigma?
