NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Vent Glacé Fall 2012 Swatches and Review

The NARS Fall 2012 color collection is a gorgeous mixture of light, frosted silvers, dark smoky jewel tones and a splash of bold Autumn red. The full lineup includes:

A garnet red Pure Matte lipstick (Amsterdam)
A vampy metallic burgundy Larger Than Life lipgloss (Rouge Tribal)
A smoky purple and olive shadow trio (High Society)
An auburn Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil (More)
A warm rose shimmer blush (Outlaw)
A warm autumn red lipstick accented with gold flecks (Autumn Leaves)
A frosted pale pink Multiple (Undress me)
A stormy grey nail lacquer (Storm Bird)
And this icy silver eyeshadow duo, Vent Glacé.

NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Vent Glacé ($34)
The left half of the duo is a light silver grey and the right half is a silvery green platinum, almost more of a taupe color. The shimmer in these is very subtle, adding only a slight frosted sheen to the lids instead of a shiny, glittery, frosty or sparkly finish.

What I liked:
  • The shadows had fairly good pigmentation, though they needed to be layered to achieve the full effect.
  • The colors can be layered together to create a third shade.
  • The colors are easy to wear and the subtle shimmer finish is nice.
  • The colors are stronger when applied wet.

What I didn't like:

  • The shadows applied well, but the texture was quite hard. They required a little more effort than normal to pick up enough color from the pan.
  • The black rubberized palette collects random dust and fingerprints as soon as you take it out of the box. It's hard to keep these compacts looking clean.
I like both colors in the duo and I'm pretty satisfied with the performance, so it gets a thumbs-up from me. Sure, it wasn't amazing; the texture could be softer and the pigmentation could be stronger, but otherwise, really not bad. One of the better NARS duos I've used.

The NARS Fall 2012 Color Collection will be available starting July 15th on narscosmetics.com.

  2. I've always like Nars shadows but I agree about the pickup. I have one called 'Bombshell' from years ago, and it's a gorgeous colour but takes forever to build up. Thanks for the review!

  7. Meh not really impressed with the duo, the colors aren't very special especially for the price.
But what I am lovingggg are your eye brows!!! I've noticed how beautifully groomed and filled in they have been in your recent makeup looks. What are you using scrangie?!? Xx

  8. Are both those looks with the same shadows? They look so different. Very pretty colors though.

  9. These colors are so gorgeous! I love NARS, I feel like their strength is putting out really refined, flattering shades. The formulas of most (definitely not all!) of their products work for me, but I know others have been disappointed with them... Hopefully they'll take note and try tweaking formulas in the future!
