Finger Paints Summer in the City Collection Summer 2012 Swatches and Review

Finger Paints has some nice brights out for summer this year. The Summer in the City collection is mostly cremes, but there's a little bit of sparkle in there for variety.

Finger Paints Beach Bound. A medium bright purple creme. Dries darker than bottle color.

Finger Paints Flip Flop Fuchsia. A bright fuchsia creme. Not neon, but still a very strong-looking color. Reminds me of NARS Anardana, just a little less saturated.

Finger Paints Late Night Rendez-vous. A blue, green and teal iridescent metallic sparkle. Makes me think of all those Zoya Charla / OPI Catch Me In Your Net / Orly Halley's Comet clones from a few summers back.

Finger Paints Movie in the Park. A sheer, purple-tinted base with tiny purple, blue and pink glitter. Very pretty and twinkly and a lot more opaque than I thought it would be!

Finger Paints Sexy Sundress. A bright yellow-toned green. Similar to OPI Did It On 'Em, just brighter.

Finger Paints Toe-teally Hot. Bright teal creme. Less bright than Milani Fresh Teal.

The formula on these was thick. It dragged a little on the nail and I needed to wait a few minutes between coats to ensure an even application. However, due to the thickness, they were also very opaque and I only needed two coats of each. Drying time is on the longer side.

Fun little collection, isn't it? I like Beach Bound and Sexy Sundress the best. A lot of them seem similar to existing colors from other brands, but they're still quite cool.

The Finger Paints Summer in the City collection is available now, exclusively at Sally Beauty.

  1. I love all the colours except Sexy Sundress. But that's only because I'm not a fan of weird yellow-green shades. =/

  2. Pretty swatches. I think my favorite is Movie in the Park.

  3. Why are there so many teal polishes with punny names? :P Movie in the Dark kind of reminds me of a Sally Hansen or a Sinful Colors glitter that I've seen... Can't remember which one though.

    1. I think there may be a Wet and WIld color that's similar to this too.

    2. thinking the Sinful you're thinking of is Frenzy. I have it but never use it :( SOOOOO sheer. takes way too many coats get just a bit of coverage

  4. Oh I love Sexy Sundress the most - I'm a fan of 'boogers' nails (that's what my friends call it) but I think it looks good. ... But Late Night Rendez-vous is really nice as-well, it reminds me a bit of Sinful Colours 'All Mighty' - something i need to pick up very soon. Thanks for the swatches you have pretty nails :)

  5. We really need a Sally's here in the U.K. Our brands are pretty nice but the ones you can't get seem more exotic somehow :) fun set.

Some polishes you can just look at over the net an NEVER order...
      So... sad...

  7. You're like the third person this week I've seen swatch these and I was really surprised, they've been clearanced here for at least a month already. Makes me wish that they still had some more of the colors for me to get my hands on though!

  10. I wish we had a Sally's. I always see Finger Paint's swatches and all I do is want, want, want. These are so stinking pretty.

  11. the formula is pretty thick on them, however adding just a tad bit of polish thinner improves the consistency and drying time with out sacrificing color payoff

  12. using a tad bit of thinner improves the consistency and drying time of the polishes. it was totally worth it for that shrek-y green :)

  13. Their nice colors but I have seen these exact shades in almost ever summer/spring collection that has come out so far. Its like all nail polish companies are on copy and repeat mode or something. Milani has an exact polish like Toteally Hot, I have movie in the park but its by sinful colors..just sigh. O well..I'm glad you guys like the collection at least..I will just skip these and wait for something else.

  15. Your right! Nothing unique, but still great colours :) Do you know how close Sexy Sun Dress is to OPI Did It On Em? I have a Sallys 40 mins away in the "big" city so it would really need to be different for me to drive there. thanks for the review.

  16. The pink, purple, and teal look like dupes of the new-ish WnW megalasts that have an amazing formula.

    Only interested in the chartreuse.

  18. How is Beach Bound in comparison to China Glaze's Grape Pop? I always wanted GP but I was never able to pick one up and have been looking for a dupe ever since. Any suggestions?

    1. It's close! It seems slightly lighter, but I like it better because it seems more purple that way. A little more summery.
