Wet n Wild ColorIcon Ice Baby Glitter Nail Polish Collection Holiday 2011 Swatches and Review

ColorIcon... Color Icon? I'm never sure if that's one word or two. It's one word, no spaces, on the packaging but it never looks right when I type it. Anyway, this is Wet n Wild's latest ColorIcon nail polish collection, Ice Baby. Aaaand.... it's pretty amazing.

Wet n Wild 24 Carats. I apologize for the blurriness; it's the first polish in the post but the last one I photographed and my camera battery died seconds after snapping these. This is a mixture of gold and coppery regular and bar/string glitter. The glitter is very fine and small but the stringy glitter still stands out.

Wet n Wild Back Alley Deals. This is a superfine purple glitter with bright hot magenta round glitter in a larger size that stands out from the tiny glitter base. It's a dupe of Nails Inc. Bloomsbury Square Special Effects 3D glitter. Which means I love it by default, since I adore Bloomsbury Square.

Wet n Wild Believe Me, It's Real. This is a superfine bright medium blue glitter with larger, round purple glitter accents. It's also a Nails Inc. clone; this one looks almost identical to Connaught Square. Really gorgeous.

Wet n Wild Cost Is No Issue. A fine teal glitter and larger round blue glitter. This is a possible match to Nails Inc. Fitzroy Square, but I haven't compared them side by side. Fitzroy Square seems like it has a lot more green to me and this looks more of a light teal/turquoise.

Wet n Wild Diamond In The Rough. The final Nails Inc. dupe of the collection; this one looks like Nails Inc. Sloane Square, plus, it matches China Glaze Some Like It Haute from the Eye Candy collection, but is also fairly similar to Orly Rock Solid from the Mineral Fx collection. Which is not to say that I don't like it because it's a dupe, because I adore it. I love the holographic accents against the smoky grey glitter base. It's fantastic, it's just less expensive than the others.

Wet n Wild Give Me A Price Quote. This one looks rather yellow in my pictures, but in real life it has a little bit of a lime green tint to it. Not so much that I would call it a pure green, but it's definitely a greeny-gold, not a pure gold. Anyway, this one has regular superfine glitter and slightly larger but still small stringy glitter. Both seem to be the same color. The string glitter stands out in this one, a bonus.

Wet n Wild It's All In The Cut. A pale purple superfine glitter base with light faded pink round glitter. This is probably my least favorite of the collection just because it looks so faded and isn't as punchy as the other colors. It's not terrible, but it just doesn't grab my attention or make me want to look at it longer.

Wet n Wild Rockin' Rubies. This one is really gorgeous. It seems like there's a bajillion red glitters on the market this time of year, but this one sets itself apart by having a handful of round holographic pieces in the formula. Very, very, very pretty and richly colored.

The formula on these was good for what they are. They applied flawlessly, but they do have a thick, rough texture. I found that if I just waited a little longer in between coats that I didn't have any clumping or dragging which can sometimes happen with these gritty glitters. They applied evenly and dried quickly. They're opaque; I used three coats of each, plus one coat of topcoat to add some thine. They are all extremely textured and gritty and they dry matte, so if you want a smooth finish you will need multiple coats of topcoat. The technique I've been using to apply multiple coats of topcoat without peeling or shrinking is pretty simple. I apply a coat of Gelous after my last coat of polish, but before topcoat. Then I apply my Seche Vite. Then, if it's still too gritty after the Seche Vite dries, I add another coat of Gelous. The Gelous is thick so it smooths out the glitter more, but it's also durable and non-quick dry so it doesn't cause shrinking or peeling like you'd get if you applied two coats of Seche Vite.

Super awesome collection. I like almost every color. They're all ridiculously sparkly and unique compared to other available glitters. They have bar glitter and stringy glitter which makes me really happy because it's one of my favorite types and I don't see it very often. The fact that some of these are $2 duplicates of $9.50 Nails Inc. glitters only makes them better in my eyes. Sure, I would have liked different colors instead of dupes, but they're just so good that I don't care.

I got mine at Walgreens. I have not seen them anywhere but that single Walgreens location, so these may be a little harder to find.

  1. Gorgeous collection, and gorgeous swatches! Thanks for posting the known dupes, it's great to see all the info in one place instead of having to search swatches for every collection =)

  3. I literally want every one of these. Too bad there's pretty much no chance at all of me finding them :(
    Beautiful swatches as always, though!

  4. They're a Walgreens' exclusive collection, took forever for them to hit the East Coast! I held off buying the Nails Inc. 3D glitters when I saw the press release for these.

  5. These were exclusive to Walgreens so that would be the only place you'd find them. I despaired of getting my hands on any of them but got Back Alley Deals in a Secret Santa so I'm happy, though I would have liked to have a few more.

  7. I hope I'll be able to find them here in Canada! I really like 24 Carat and Diamond In The Rough, so I'll definitely pick those up! Rockin' Rubies looks pretty too!

  8. When I saw this collection in Walgreens, I immediately had to have it...I'm a sucker for glitter nail polish. Also, I think Diamond in the Rough is similar to Glitz Gal from the Sally Hansen Gems Crush collection. Can you do a comparison for us?

  15. I also found these at one specific Walgreen's and nowhere else, strange. I thought I had all of them, but I seem to be missing two! I'll have to go back and try to find them. 24 Carats is gorgeous!

  16. Hey someone may have mentioned this already, but there are two other colors - Razzle Dazzler and Big Money. I don't want to post the link to my pictures because I don't want to be rude to your other readers, but I think it's interesting that if you pick up a full set at different places you're getting different polishes! Sneaky!

  18. I found them too but passed on them casue I know how hard glitter is to get off and I'm having trouble with my nails already so i'm giving them a break but it killed me to pass them up how are they for you on removing the polish??

  19. I have the red and gray ones and LOVE the color and sparkle. Thanks for the tips on getting a shinier, smoother finish--I'll definitely have to try those next time I do a mani, especially since I already own Gelous. My only gripes about these polishes is that they seem to chip really quickly, and they're hard to remove (but glitter polish always is).

  20. Spent about 1/2 hr in my Walgreens looking for these. FINALLY I found the display sitting all the way up on the top risers. I pulled the display down and they only had 4 of the colors. They did have the 1 I wanted, Diamond in the Rough. Yay! But after reading your post again I want the red and gold. Oh Well... Guess I will be making trips to various Walgreens. Keep up the great swatches and posts! :)
