Grossest Polish Ever

I recently swatched what has got to be the grossest polish I have swatched to date.

I bought it last winter because it looked so pretty, but then I forgot all about it and never wore it.

The color is really beautiful in the bottle- a pale icy blue with a smattering of opalescent glitter. A snowy, sparkly, perfect winter color adorably housed inside a snowman's head.

Unfortunately, it just does not work on the nails. It dries to a chalky matte finish with huge lumps and chunks because the glitter is covered in polish and can't shine through the chalky base. It looks like cottage cheese. If I walked into the hospital wearing this I'm sure they'd write me a prescription.

I mean... this is so gross and chunky that you can still see the chunks even with two coats of topcoat. The funny thing is, this polish looks better in the picture than it does in real life. Usually it's the complete opposite- polish looks better in real life than in the pictures. My pictures usually tend to show me flaws that I don't notice in real life as well, but in this case it seems to hide the flaws that are glaringly obvious in real life. Must be all the topcoat.

It makes me wonder how a polish that looks so incredible in the bottle ends up being so gross on the nail. It's like they didn't even test this before they mass produced it. It doesn't even have a name! It's a crying shame cause the color in the bottle is positively magical.

I normally love the Snowman polishes that come out every year. My absolute favorite is that red and green fine glitter Snowman. And you know.... they used to have cute little top hats for lids but now all they have is a weird black pole coming out of their head.

So far that's the only dud snowman in my collection. All the other ones are amazing. Fingers crossed this year's set...

  1. Where are those infamous snowman nailpolishes from? I've seen them on blogs before but never in real life. That polish is pretty awful alright, I hope you tossed it after you swatched & snapped pics. Eeek!

  2. Cynthia, I've only seen them at Meijer starting in early December and then after New Year's they're gone until next December. I've heard other people get them from drugstores like Rite Aid and such, but Meijer seems to be the only place I've seen them here

  3. Honestly I don't think that's even nail polish. Someone dumped some kool-aid powder in some glue with some sawdust and the joke's on us.

    That's downright atrocious. Wtf.

  4. Oh my! I enlarged the pic to see what you were talking about. I can't believe how lumpy/chalky looking it is...that's too bad. Because it does look very pretty in the bottle.(sigh)!

  5. @cynthia This year, my CVS had them. But, that was the only place I saw them and they were super picked over and kind of dried out.

  6. Ew. Any idea what company makes these polishes?

  7. I think a lot of companies just bottle whatever they have and try to sell it. No color control, no swatching, no testing, just for the money.

  8. If snowmen could vomit, I think it would look like that!
Your post made me laugh along with you in horror.

I have been reading all of your recent posts. I'm behind in commenting, but it's not for lack of appreciation and good feeling. I really have been enjoying peeks at older polish. Who says history is boring? ;)

  15. It's pretty gross even in the pic. However, I don't think it's the first time I've see a polish that looked amazing in the bottle but not as great on the nail. MAC Baby Goth Girl had all these gorgeous copper flakies that looked amazing in the bottle, but they hardly showed up on the nail.

  17. You have by far the most gorgeous natural nails I have ever seen. Do you have a FAQ's section on here or do you have any basic advice on nail polish removers, basic nail care, or nail strengtheners that you use? I haven't found anything that actually does strengthen my nails so they're always breaking once they pass my fingertips. Thanks in advance!! :) I love this blog!

  18. The company that makes the snowmen polishes (at least I'm pretty sure) had some easter ones out this year. They looked so springy and pastel in the bottle. So I bought like 4 of them.... got them home and they sucked so so bad. So streaky and instead of pastels, somehow how my nails they transferred over to these neon like shades. I don't even understand lol

  22. LMAO

    hospitals and prescriptions? LOL

You guys in the US have so many interesting polish brands. I would kill for a Meijer, not for this polish but for Massini.

  25. I LOL'd at your description. Sadly, I know just what you mean. I have a polish that's like this, it's pretty in the bottle with a pretty name (Sea Spray) but is a clumpy bumpy mess on the nail. Oh well, they can't all be winners, right?
