Essie Resort Collection Summer 2010

This is Essie's first official offering for Summer 2010 and I must say.... I'm quite pleased! Take a look.

Lapis of Luxury. This one didn't quite photograph accurately- this is really a softer shade of blue. My camera wants to make blue cremes look super bright, but this is actually more what I'd consider periwinkle than sky blue. It is beautiful. Supremely beautiful. A soft, serene blue. Love at first sight for me. Very soothing to look at, isn't it?

Playa Del Platinum. I didn't expect this to be this color! Based on the promo pic and the name, I just kinda assumed it would be silver. I like it better this way! It's a mousy grey with maybe a little hint of warmth. Nice and soft and gentle looking.

Splash of Grenadine. I actually like this. A pink that I like. I like it because it's unique and interesting. My photo doesn't really capture it, but this is a really soft color, almost dusty looking. It's mostly pink but there's a touch of red-purple to it that keeps it from being baby pink. Despite how soft the color is (and it's not pastel either) it really stands out against my skintone, so it's like a soft-bright, fun! It's not really the color of grenadine but I'm thinking it's more a play on words- grenadine islands, grenadine is red and used in drinks....

Turquoise & Caicos. I'll admit, I had to look up 'Caicos'. Now that I know it's a group (or groups?) of islands in the West Indies, the name makes sense to me. Anyway, the color is great. It's not mint green... it's not jade green... it's not For Audrey. It's a perfect turquoise, a light blue mixed with bright green. Very lovely.

The formula on these is the only drawback to this gorgeous collection. I found it quite tricky to apply. The combination of runny polish and small brush gave me a little trouble with streaking and all four shades needed three coats to compensate. However, drying time was great and three coats dried in no time. They all dried to a highly glossy finish, which is a bonus if you're one of those people who never uses topcoat.

Small collection but good. Nice pretty blues that I will definitely be wearing regularly and a pink that actually looks good on me instead of giving me dirty-looking hands. I was half expecting neons again, and I like neons, Essie's especially, but I'm really happy they did blue and turquoise instead! I just got a vision of a Konad design... Playa Del Platinum with a scrollwork pattern of Turquoise & Caicos on top... now I have to try it.... Hmm...

  1. I really like this collection and will get at least three of them (might pass on Splash of Grenadine). I'm so happy that Essie's released some fun collections lately!

  2. I'm definitely getting Turquoise and Caicos, and I might actually get Playa Del Platinum. I don't have anything like it and I think there is a hole in my polish wardrobe where it should be LOL.

    Gorgeous swatches as always!
    Love!

  4. I was pretty impressed with this collection in terms of the colors available. Normally, I don't even bother to look at Essie's collections, because I figure they'll be the same boring stuff.

  5. Lovely bright summer colours - I'm sold! :D

  6. Not a huge Essie fan, but I may break down and get a few of these. Too bad the formula still isn't the best.

  7. I really like this collection. Lapis of Luxury is my favourite and I suprisingly liked Grenadine too. Turquoise and Caicos I knew I would love since its a turquoise. I don't care for Playa del Platinum.

Your swatches look great despite the trouble you had with formula!

  8. I wasn't a big fan of Essie's last two releases, too much same old same old, but this collection has some fun colors, and I usually love the coverage I get from Essie. From the promo pics I thought I'd just want the turquoise and the blue, but looking at your swatches has me thinking that I don't really have anything to match that shade of pink or the grey. Hmmm . . . may have to get them all!

  9. Ooh, pretty.

How do they compare with Mesmerize and the greenish one from last spring?

  10. Another great Eiise collection - what is the world coming to?

    Thanks for the swatches!

  11. Love and want them ALL! Essie always delivers! I don't think I have any colors like these in my collection so I will most likely end up getting them all, they are all so gorgeous! Thanks!!! :)

  12. Oh, these are gorgeous! Do you know when they are arriving in store?

  13. Mind you, I don't know if I would buy all four. Definitely Lapis of Luxury and Turquoise & Caicos, though! :D

  14. I loved this collection too! Oh and to explain turqoise and caicos, Turks and Caicos are tropical islands so it's just a play on words. Lovely swatches, as always honey :)

  16. Lovely shades! Even though I'm postponing this purchase cause here in the southern hemisphere it´s fall and time for more exciting shades. I have a request, I know it will be time consuming, but maybe someday, can you make Opi red cremes comparisons? Like those when you paint each one in each nail?
    Thank you!

  18. Hmm after seeing your swatches I've decided that I like the whole collection! I really want Turquoise & Caicos and Lapis of Luxury though. I still can't believe Essie releases collections that aren't all pastel pinks!

  24. I really love this collection, the turquoise and blue one look like absolute must-haves to me, but the other two will certainly accompany the first two ;)

Unfortunately my favorite online e-tailer just doubled their price for Essies from $4 to $8, which I think is just mean.
But I will get them nevertheless. Maybe from another seller.

Thanks for those beautiful swatches, Scrangie!

A few postings ago you said you felt weird when not posting about nailpolish or showing awesome nail-pix. Please don't think that! You are far more than just nails ;)) although you have really awesome nails and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your pix!
You've been of endless help for choosing polishes for myself, not only because of the colors but also because of your descriptions.

Remember the Essie Bridal Collection 2008? Where you had 6 coats of polish on your nails and they were not even close to being opaque? I was so happy you wrote that, otherwise I'd bought at least 2 of them and I'd be bitterly disappointed, because I am willing to do 2 and 3 coats of polish, in rare occasions even 4, if the result is really worth it, but not more.

What I wanted to say - I LOVE your pix and your descriptions of nail polish, but I also read other articles from you, no matter if you are talking about shoes or books or movies or whatever.
And as it's your blog, you should write about anything you like.
    *hugs*
*hands you some freshly picked snowdrops* (there's not much other flowers out here yet)

  26. Like all these. Playa hasn't been done (I think). And I have found a new desire for pink and Grenadine looks as if there's no dupe. Very nice.

  30. I think it might be the fact that I'm aching for Spring (which still refuses to fully arrive though it is long overdue), but the more I look at these the more I think I would buy them all. Originally I thought I'd just pick up the blue and green, but now... your pictures are just too good, I guess! :D
I'm so glad you're back to posting. :D

  34. Pretty! Pretty! Blue and Turquoise, to bad the formula is wonky! Why can't Essie thicken their polish?

  35. How does Playa Del Platinum compare to last Fall's Chinchilly?

    ReplyDelete
  36. no more essies for me because transdesign increased their price to 8 dollars.great colours anyway.

  37. I saw these gorgeous colors on a magazine & so definitely going to get all the colors <3

  38. @jenn

I loved chinchilly but I couldn't find it anywhere so I just bought Play Del Platinum. It's a summery/warmer version of chinchilly, more sandy/taupe than grey, but still subtle and light. I love it!
