Sugarpill Cosmetics had another sale recently, and as luck would have it, everything I wanted was actually in stock! So, of course, I had to place another order. The Burning Heart palette is finally mine! WOOHOO!
Here's what I got:
A few more Chromalust Loose Eyeshadows.
And two pairs of the new Sugarpill lashes.
The palette flips open to reveal four huge shadow pans and a full sized mirror.
All of the shades in the palette have a matte finish when swatched, but Poison Plum has a very subtle turquoise shimmer to it in the pan. I originally assumed that this was a match for Make Up For Ever #92, but it's really not, even though they look pretty similar in pictures. Poison Plum is lighter and a lot more red-toned than #92.
Swatched heavily, no primer, natural light and flash. Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Love+ and Poison Plum.
I do like these colors a lot, but I'm not as impressed with them as I was with the Sweetheart palette. The colors in the Sweetheart palette felt so smooth and and almost creamy in texture. These have a very stiff feel to them. They felt chalky, hard, and a little sticky/clumpy/grainy feeling, didn't swatch smoothly and just didn't feel anything like the Sweetheart shadows. I thought they would have the same powdery-smooth-cool texture and the same streak-free, barely-need-to-use-any super intense color payoff.
I've only use Poison Plum and Buttercupcake on my eyes so far, but Buttercupcake gave me trouble and Poison Plum was mostly fine.
The Chromalusts come in equally impressive packaging. The lids have the same hot pink/silver Sugarpill logo that the palette has.
The labels are equally nice. Clearly printed, cute, and with all the pertinent information. Ingredients are not listed on the jars themselves, but are included on the outer box (not shown).
The jars have wide mouths and no sifters. Product is filled by weight, not by volume, so each jar looks like it contains a different amount.
The colors I picked this time were:
Decora. A bright pink shimmer, slightly yellow-based with a coral tinge, and lots of tiny bright green sparkles.
Hysteric. A blue-toned frosty purple shimmer with little blue, green and pink iridescent sparkles. It's like a better version of MAC Violet pigment.
Lumi. A sheer white base with bright turquoise/blue/green duochrome shimmer.
Also, my Lumi exploded a little in shipping :(
SUGARPILL EYELASH OVERDOSE FALSE LASHES (PIXIE BOMB, STORMY)
Also picked up two of the new Sugarpill lashes.
They come in a plastic tray with a paper sleeve that included some instructions on how to apply the lashes.
These ones are the Stormy lashes. These are also a spiky style, but they have a slightly more natural look. They're full and medium length with a slight curl to them, and if you look closely, you can see that some of the hairs are a deep blue instead of pure black.
A few little things to note about the lashes: They don't come with their own glue, the packages aren't marked with the names of the styles, and they're made of either natural human hair or synthetic hair, depending on the style.
One thing that I love about these is that Sugarpill's website has an actual picture of each lash style being worn on the eye. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that and how easy it makes deciding which lashes to order.
Once I try to apply them I'll have to report back with my results. They seem really nice and lightweight compared to other lashes I've tried, so hopefully I'll have good luck with them!
I did a couple fast looks using some of these products:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop
NYX White Eyeshadow Base (lid only)
Sugarpill Chromalust in Lumi on lid
Sugarpill Chromalust in Hysteric in crease and on lower lashline
Sugarpill Chromalust in Decora wet as liner
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero on waterline
Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara
Sugarpill Poison Plum on brows
If you look closely at my liner, you can see that bleeding problem I was talking about. It happened gradually, but by the time I was done applying my mascara, I noticed that a lot of pink color had bled out of Decora and onto Lumi. Maybe I got it too wet? Or maybe it's just one of those colors that bleeds. All three shades are very sparkly looking on the eye... maybe next time I'll tone it down a little so it doesn't look so shiny.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Sugarpill Chromalust in Decora on inner half of lid
Sugarpill Chromalust in Hysteric on outer half of lid
Sugar Pill Pressed Eyeshadow in Poison Plum in crease and on lower lashline
Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil in Clash as liner
Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara
Ooh, clumpy lashes, bad. Anyway... this didn't turn out quite like I envisioned it, but it still looks pretty okay-ish. I wanted to do an 80s-looking pink and purple thing, but this just sorta melted into a weird purple gradient. The sparkles in Decora and Hysteric are super pretty, but you have to be careful not to overblend them or they'll disappear. I patted some extra on after blending to make sure the sparkles were still visible. Poison Plum went on a little streakier than I hoped, but the color is nice.
Overall, I'm fairly happy with everything I ordered. I love the Chromalusts, the lashes look super cool and the shadows are okay, but I didn't expect them to be so stiff-textured. I'll have to go through and use each color a few times to see if I can get them to go on a little smoother like the Sweet Heart shadows do. My Lumi spilled on everything, but that's okay, it happens and my jar is still full.
I do wish that their shipping statement was more accurate, though. I did get notice ahead of time that my order may not ship until February 20th, and I got a shipping notice on the 20th as promised. The problem is that the package didn't actually ship until the 24th, similar to my last order. I ordered during a sale (meaning extra high order volume), I completely understand and acknowledge that shipping will be longer and I'm 100% okay with that, but it's a confusing to be told that your order has shipped/will be shipped on X day when it hasn't. I'm totally cool with long turnarounds and long shipping as long as I know about it going into it. My order did arrive and everything was fine, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Probably doesn't happen if you're not ordering during a sale.
One awesome thing to mention is that my order came with a little business card like the last one, except this time it had a super hot picture of Amelia Arsenic (aka Destroyx from Angelspit) on it! I thought that was pretty cool, as most brands tend to use generic pop star-type celebrities as models, but for once a brand I like used a model that I'm actually familiar with, and one from a band who has toured with/has members from other bands I like. Neato.
Everything here can be purchased directly from Sugarpill's website. Shipping is a $5 flat rate for all US orders, but orders of $75 or more get free shipping, including international. The Burning Heart palette is out of stock again, but it's a permanent item, so it will be back eventually.
