My Blue Gloss Collection

I have a bit of an obsession with lipgloss. That's no secret, especially if you've ever seen inside my purse. But, there's an obsession within the obsession, and that is the obsession with blue lipgloss. Most people I know go, "Ewww, blue lips? Freak!" but it's really not as funky as it sounds! Most blue glosses are rather sheer; instead of making you look cyanotic, they only add a cool hue to your lips and make your teeth look whiter.

Whenever I see a blue gloss or lipstick, I have to get it. I've missed out on a few that I wish I had (MAC Peacocky, waaah) but I'm always on the lookout for them.

Here's most of my blue gloss stash (I'm missing at least one Lancôme, maybe a few others):

Left to right: Milani 3D Glitzy Gloss in Movie Star, MAC Dazzleglass in Comet Blue, MAC Blue Memory, MAC Greenhouse, Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Dreamworld, Philosophy Snow Kiss, Maybelline Fruity Jelly in Blueberry Burst, Cover Girl Wet Slicks AmazeMint in Happy Hour, Too Faced Sparkler Glamour Gloss in Sapphire Spark, Simply Sweet Flavored Lipgloss blue/purple swirl (no name), Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Caribe, Victoria's Secret Sweet Talk in Blueberry Shimmer.

Most of the blue glosses follow the same theme. They're either duochrome/glass fleck/crazy iridescent sparkle or clear gloss with a blue tint and/or slight shimmer.

Milani Movie Star, MAC Comet Blue, MAC Blue Memory, MAC Greenhouse, Lancôme Dreamworld, Philosophy Snow.

Maybelline Blueberry Burst, Cover Girl Happy Hour, Too Faced Sapphire Spark, Simply Sweet no name, Lancôme Carïbe, Victoria's Secret Blueberry Shimmer and just for fun, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Rx Lip Tar. Really stands out, doesn't it?

I recommend enlarging those swatch pictures so you can see all the pretty sparkle. Some of these are just gorgeous beyond belief. A quick description of them, in case the pictures don't speak for themselves:

Milani 3D Glitzy Gloss in Movie Star is a sheer blue tinted base with tons of duochrome sparkle. It reflects gold, pink, blue, violet, and at some angles, even a little blue and orange. It has a brush applicator, a somewhat thin texture and a soft orange creme scent.

MAC Dazzleglass in Comet Blue is also a sheer blue base with tons of duochrome sparkle, but it's even sparklier and more duochromey than the Milani. The blue sparkle is very bright and shiny and the dominant reflect color is purple. It has a more smooth and uniform sparkle and it reflects every color of the rainbow. It has a thick, sticky texture, a brush applicator and MAC's amazing creamy vanilla scent.

MAC Blue Memory Lipglass is a pale frosted blue with a slight greenish tint. It's on the sheer side, but it does stand out on the lips. It has the signature MAC lipglass texture and scent and the standard doe foot applicator.

MAC Greenhouse Lipglass is more green than blue, but it's definitely a blue-green. It's similar in finish to Blue Memory and has all the same features as your standard MAC Lipglass.

Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Dreamworld is a sheer blue gloss with a subtle silvery shimmer plus a small amount of blue glitter particles. It has a thick texture, a strong sweet spearmint scent and a slanted tip applicator.

Philosophy Snow Kiss Lipshine is a clear gloss with fine glowy blue shimmer. It's extremely subtle, but when the light catches it just right, there's a bright blue reflection and sparkle on your lips. It has a smooth but sticky texture, a sweet cool citrus scent and flavor (pretty much identical to Philosophy Senorita Margarita) and a slanted tip applicator.

Maybelline Fruity Jelly in Blueberry Burst is a sheer blue gloss with sparse blue/green duochrome glitter particles. This is the most subtle of all of them, it provides the least blue tint and the least glitter. It has a sticky texture, a weird sharp chemical fruit scent and a rounded tip applicator.

Cover Girl Wet Slicks AmazeMint in Happy Hour is a sheer blue-green gloss with subtle silver shimmer and a violet flash. It has a thin, slick, oily texture and a doe-foot wand applicator. The scent is a horrible combination of plastic/gasoline/chemical, weird vanilla and toothpaste. To be quite blunt, this is the worst one. Cover Girl Wet Slicks are some of the worst gloss I've ever used, I can't believe I even bought this one. They smell rancid even when they're brand new and they slide off your lips like pure oil. Guh-rosssssss!

Too Faced Sparkler Glamour Gloss in Sapphire Spark might just be the best out of all of them. It is a sheer base packed with glass-fleck style duochrome shimmer. It's the most multichromatic and sparkly of all and the packaging is really interesting. It shimmer is predominantly light blue, but slight changes in angle cause it to reflect every color of the rainbow. It has a thinner, less sticky texture than MAC Lipglass, a subtle citrus scent and a really unique twist-up tube with a plastic slant-tip applicator. I highly recommend the entire Sparkler Glamour Gloss line if you're into amazing duochrome glittery things like I am.

The nameless Simply Sweet swirl gloss (it's from Dollar Tree), is a sheer cobalt blue shimmer swirled with a very sheer light purple shimmer. The shades mix together on the lips and provide a light blue tint and subtle shimmer. It has a thick, smooth balm-like petrolatum-heavy texture (which I do like despite the cheap ingredients), a chemical blueberry scent and a slant tip applicator.

The Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Carïbe is a sheer medium blue gloss base with opalescent glitter. The glitter flashes pastel shades of yellow, orange, blue, green and pink. There isn't a lot of glitter, but there's two or three times as much as in Dreamworld. It has a thick sticky texture, a sweet, fruity, artificial blueberry-ish scent and a slant tip applicator.

The Victoria's Secret Sweet Talk gloss is a sheer green-blue base with frosty silver shimmer. It can look a little murky. It has a thick, slick texture and a terrible acidic/sour chemical blueberry scent- reminds me of some type of bubblegum, the big square kind... Can't remember what it's called. This was part of a set that came with an awesome sheer green shimmer.

And Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Rx? The bluest of the blue. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with this one. It has a thin, dense, dry texture- it's all pigment. No shimmer or shine once it's set. It has a rounded tip applicator and a dry peppermint scent and flavor. This can be worn alone, but you can also add it to other lip tars to make your own color or to tone down some warmer shades. Very versatile, and nothing beats Lip Tar in the pigmentation department. Still haven't finished my Lip Tar review... I need to just buckle down and deal with the swatch-stained arms for a day! Those things are so hardcore!

Tell me I'm not the only blue gloss lover out there! Any of you guys have a blue gloss stash? Recommend me some more blues and tell me about your favorites!

  9. I have about four or five blue glosses, too, plus a few lipsticks. I originally bought them for costuming purposes but now I just like them.

  10. I just lost my blue lipstick at the IMATS. *cry* I am so sad about this. I don't like gloss though.

  13. I actually LOVE the Wetslick Amazemint gloss, it smells like a sweet toothpaste to me and I give it in gift bags all the time. Everyone I've given it to has loved it too and ended up repurchasing. Guess it just shows to each his own! I've been trying to find that Milani forever- I'm convinced no one carries it here as there isn't even a slot for it! Think I need Greenhouse now!

  14. I would love to try blue gloss. Is there any chance you could post photos of how a couple of them look on you? Thanks for this post!

  15. Benefit's California Kissing is my FAVORITE of all time. It's not sticky in the least and its really great.

  16. Blue lip glosses have a utility for me. When applied over red lipstick, it makes the color soooo much brighter! I'm not sure what it is, but the two together create a beautiful, more vibrant look.

  17. I'm such a fan myself. I'm wearing blue lipgloss right now. I picked up a tube from the local beauty supply. Just a little cheap brand. They also blend well with other glosses that have a bit more color.

  18. Can you show us a picture of one of these on your lips?

  24. Never tried blue lip gloss before. Now I think I will! I'm always on the lookout for weird things to try. My fav colour is green, though. Do you know if green lip gloss looks as good as blue?
Thanks for this post, I found it "illuminating" ^-^

  25. California Kissin'! I swear I have that but I can't find it. I'll have to pick up a new tube!

I can try again to get some lip pictures, but I've never been able to get a good one. Nails I can do, but lips always come out wrong!

Nicoletta, green gloss is great! If you have really pigmented lips like I do, the green tone in some glosses cancels out the red which gives you a nice caramel colored nude lip. MAC Spring Bean is great for this!

  26. Kevyn Aucoin’s Alurabliss is really very pretty, just thought I’d mention it in case you feel like branching out.

  32. I also am obsessed with blue gloss... I spent hours on MUA trying to swap for Comet Blue, which I finally got! Definitely check out the blue gloss by Jemma Kidd.. although I can't recall the name right this second. It's gorgeous over pink or red lipstick!

  33. Don't forget to check out tokidoki Prisma Lip Gloss in Ninja Dog. I found it last night on Sephora after I just HAD to look for blue glosses, thanks to your post. ;-)

I don't think I've ever had a blue gloss, but I used to have a couple of pale blue lipsticks when I was younger. The funkiest gloss I have right now I Sephora Sweet Candy Gloss in Lime Blossom, that I bought as a cheap dupe of MAC Spring Bean (it's only $5). I like it so much, I bought another one to keep in my bag at all times.

Man, UD used to have some great blue lipsticks, but I can't remember a gloss. I wish they'd come out with some new version of old products for their 15th Anniversary. :fingers crossed:

  34. I remember as a child wet and wild made a baby blue lipstick but when you put it on it changed color to pink:( and I was so disappointed, anyway ever since I heard about blue making teeth whiter i always try to find lip colors with blue sparkles or hue to it, but I have a hard time finding blue lipgloss. I'll have to keep my eyes out. The mac ones look so pretty!

  35. You NEED Lancome Juicy Tube in Icy Pop. Reminds me a bit of Caribe from your pics but IP has more blue glitter/shimmer in it and I think the base is a touch bluer too but for some reason it's super easy to put off.

  36. What collection did Greenhouse come out with?! It's to die for!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks, I'd love to get that but I'm in Italy and Mac is veeeeery hard to find (I'm in Turin) here.I'm lemming a lot of polishes and now I'll have to add the gloss too! Oh my! :(
If I have the chance I'll surely get it in no time! And, thanks to you, I'll have a go with blue glosses as well.
Seems I'm developing another obsession *-*
    xoxo Your blog is great!!!

  39. I bought two blue glosses last summer and they are gorgeous! The effect on the lips is very unique. My friend thought I´m crazy, but she agreed she would never expect they will look this good.

  42. Hard Candy's new Glossaholic in Chill Out has blue flecks in it. It's the only one I own, but I really like it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh. My. A-god. I am in love with all of these!

  44. I <3 blue glosses, since they make my skin appear less red and more white. They also make my teeth look nicer! I think Milani is a favourite. It's cheap enough for me to wear occasionally and not mind if it comes off quickly. For some reason, glosses don't stay on me long, so I usually don't get an expensive one unless it's TRULY fabulous!

I like this one blue mineral gloss from BLSoaps on Etsy too, but I forget the name. It's a pale blue that can be layered. I have Persephone as well, which was a custom job from her that turned into an FP item overnight (literally!), although Persephone is a red/black to go with Milani's black nail polish with red glitter. The texture isn't bad; it comes in a stick, not liquid in a tube, so it's easier for me to put on without looking at a mirror. Oh- didn't ShiroCosmetics just come out with a dark blue gloss, too? I haven't tried that one yet, though.

  45. Loving this post! I'm a bit obsessed with blue lip products myself and it's great to see I'm not the only one!

(Also, re: MAC Peacocky, this is probably really awkward since I've only just created my blog and started officially following you, but my local MAC counter still had one the last time I was there. I could try getting my hands on it for you, if you like?)

  46. Oh wow! They look gorgeous! I have a thing for blue glosses, too. I'd love to see lip swatches of these too! xD;

  47. I just got Benefit Prrrowl gloss/mascara topcoat duo. The gloss looks pink in the tube, but blue on my lips. I think it's my first blue gloss. I'm into the blue thing now.

  48. seconded on benefit california kissing. its pretty great and i like how its minty. im intrigued by blue glosses since theyre supposed to make your teeth look whiter

  49. I have an old blue MAC lipgloss w/o the label and one you didn't mention - it's an Estee Lauder clear, hinged cube that shows off the icy blue duochrome orb suspended inside. I got it a long time ago and it's still in the box. I guess that's what happens when I make spontaneous purchases.

    ReplyDelete
  50. You convinced me to try a blue gloss! Usually I would have passed right on by, but B&BW had Liplicious Blue Colada. It's sheer but has the tiny little sparkles in it. Very pretty alone or layered!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I was thinking Benefit's California Kissin also! Haven't tried it though. I had a blue gloss once... GOSH Lip Jam. I just remember it being too plasticy!

  53. a few years ago I got a blueish gloss from Sephora and I loved it,it really didn't have the speckles just a tint of blue which I like. I can't find it anywhere, it actually looked like the one you posted from Milani but,it was not. I believe it was from Borghese and it said 3d on it. If anyone knows where I can get it, I would be grateful. thanks! Kristin
