Oops

I know, it's obnoxious, I keep complaining about it, but... I've been sick for almost an entire month. It's getting on my nerves.  I missed the flowers blooming on my pear tree because I've been doing nothing but sleeping and coughing!  I've been waiting for that all year!

The sickness started out as an innocent-enough itchy throat during the last week of March and then mutated into some flu-like monster that put me on my ass for two weeks straight.  Then I felt better for about a week and BLAMMO! Back with a vengeance.  So it seems I have bronchitis (nobody got time for that, et cetera, et cetera) and I'm feeling very lethargic because of it.

Lethargy and sickness = gettin' lazy with my normally enjoyable beauty routine.  No polish.  Cuticles a mess. Clarisonic battery dead.  Every time I've put makeup on this week, my eyes just water until it all runs down my face.  And... my hair.  Yikes.

Lately I have on Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink with some combination of Atomic Turquoise or Ultra Violet in the front or sides, but I've been letting it fade out because I wanted to try a different color (Manic Panic Pretty Flamingo, anyone tried it?).  The (extremely porous) ends had already faded to a nice pastel pink, but the roots were still super bright and it looked weird.

I didn't feel like bleaching my roots (even though they need it) and I didn't feel like touching up with mega-super-staining hot pink while I'm this sick, so for some reason I decided to just cover everything with Electric Amethyst.

Freshly washed Electric Amethyst over Hot Hot Pink (still damp)

So... black roots.  Then a stripe of dark fuchsia, then a stripe of purple, and then... Grey in the front, blue on the sides and pink around the back. Oops.

After three washes with Shimmer Lights shampoo and blow-dried

Right now it's turned into a nice faded lavender/mauve type color, similar to all those grey-purple-taupe-putty polish colors that were popular a couple years ago. It's a lot bluer than I thought it would be, but I'm going to fix it as soon as I'm not hacking up my internal organs.  I like the pastel/faded/antique look on other people but I need bright.

Just thought I'd share this so you can laugh with me while I'm recovering.  I mean, don't laugh too much, but... yeah.  I'm going to go make some tea and pass out in front of Adventure Time reruns now.

  2. Call me weird but I actually like the look of your "oops" in the second picture.

Hope you're feeling better soon. My friends and I had a similar virus and the crazy thing just hangs on and on. You think you're better and then it knocks you on your butt again.

  3. I have been trying to get a shade of lavender on my hair for aaaaages! Right now I am trying to fade my Punky Colour Plum and see if that yields anything, haha. I kind of have it on parts where my old turquoise hair was more blue - so do I try and mix turquoise and plum? Jeeez, I have no idea where I am going with this, anyway - your hair is gorgeous!

I am sorry to hear about your sickness! I had bronchitis forever a few months ago! It's always nice to see any update from you. Get better soon! <3

  4. I get broadsided by one of those nasty, lingering, hit-you-for-six bugs about twice a year, so draining. Mine knocked me out for most of March but thankfully no bronchitis this time - really hope you start to feel better soon. And I have had my fair share of hair "Oops" moments - let me tell you, you don't have a thing to worry about in comparison :)

  7. Yes indeed, I've been wearing Manic Panic Pretty Flamingo for years! It fades down fairly fats after application but it remains pretty the whole time, even when very pale. Also, it has a quality I've never found in any other color (of any brand): it has almost no bleed. Clean towels, clean pillowcases. I LOVE IT.

  8. I would be happy as pie if my hair looked like the second picture - I really love washed out pretty pastel hair! I'm sorry you're so sick :( I don't think it's obnoxious to complain about it - sometimes it helps to vent. Hope you feel better soon <3

  9. I'm pretty sure that your illness is ALLERGIES! They hit my friend the same way as you, although the allergy season started in early February in New York! I would recommend that you find an allergy pill that works for you, and you take it like clockwork! That should hopefully help!
    I love your hair color!
I have a pink/magenta streak in my dark brown hair. I need a touchup, but it doesn't really matter considering that it is not a "natural" color, and hence the roots don't really matter =P

  10. I think your hair looks absolutely lovely in the second picture. I wish I had balls (and a profession) that would allow me to do that.

Just some advice from a nurse--Get lots of rest (make yourself do this), drink LOTS of H20, and remain persistent in washing your hands.

  12. Hi Scrangie : ) I am sorry to hear of your illness. I send you warm and restoring get well wishes from my healing garden.

I truly do hope you are bouncing back to full strength very soon. Right now I am healing from breast cancer surgery and I am having lots of fruit and veggies to help me heal, along with extra vitamin C.

We will all be here when you are rested up and feeling better Scrangie. It is all about getting better now. Just resting and healing is enough for you to do, I know!

  13. Trade ya - I had major surg. Ap 8, followed up with chemo and not allowed to go home - stuck in out patient housing and not even up to retail therapy at some fun places close by - lucky to get a few groceries into the kitchen thing with this apt and back and forth to treatments. Air quality horrible where I am - news saying everyone stay inside - ugh - not used to this - it's gorg where I live 500 miles from here. I like the lighter mauve shade - can equate with not up to doing makeup - least my Clarisonic is charged - just not using it 2X a day as normal. Caught a cold this week which does not help how sore I am from surgery that makes me tell folks I feel like I was hit by a huge steam ship....MD said this week I will be swollen and sore for 3 months - glad he did not tell me that before - I might not have gone through with the surg! Feel better to both of us. Wishing I could reach my toes to paint them - know that would make me feel better - cannot get there yet due to all the sore and swelling post op and don't feel up to going and having to pay someone to give me a pedi. I sure hear ya on the need to sleep thing. I am pooped out.

  14. Ooooh, I think you should do a review of the Clarisonic cleanser when you're feeling up to it. I'd never heard of it until just now, and my google search has me intrigued!

  15. I LOVE the first pic--not a fail at all, in my book.

What kind of pear tree do you have? Where I live (central California) there areflowering pear trees EVERYWHERE; they don't produce fruit, just these jizzy-smelling blossoms that give me every allergy symptom you can think of. They make my life *miserable*from the time they start blooming (early Feb.) until they stop (April); then, the OTHER things I'm allergic too take over!

I do hope you get to feeling 100% soon. Your blog was the first one I read, the one that got me "hooked", Take care and bless you!

  19. *offers tea and a blanket* Hope you feel better soon- we miss you!! :)
Pretty Flamingo is a gorgeous and bright color, but it IS light, and similar to the color at the ends of your hair. Jerome Russel's Flamingo Pink, though... ooouff. That's the best bright deep pink in the whole world.

  23. Bronchitis SUCKSSS! I have it and ugh, it's one of the worst feelings in the world. I hope you get better soon, Scrangie! And your hair looks awesome! :)

  24. I hope you feel better soon! Bronchitis is horrible. My sisters both suffered from chronic bronchitis as children--one would get it in the winter and the other in the spring. They had to use steroid inhalers to reduce the swelling in their bronchial tubes so they could heal.

  26. *hugs Scrangie*
    hope you bet better soon!

First of all - I really love your hair color! I admired the vivid pink when you did that yellow eye-make-up a couple of days ago, but I also like the faded pastel. And purple and turquoise are just to die for!
(Though I admit, I don't dare dyeing my hair blue or turquoise or purple, but I bought a couple of colorful wigs from Ebay :)) and I'm wearing those during the rock- and metal-festivals in summer :))

I can totally relate to you.
I also was sick for the last 2-3 weeks with a nasty cough and dizziness and the weather was bad, too, so I almost missed the blooming of my cherrytree.
We had very cold weather and then a warm spell, so everything kind of exploded into blooming and the cherry tree was like
"Monday - still brown and naked,
    Tuesday - small green buds,
Wednesday - big green buds and small leaves,
    Thursday - first white blossoms,
    Friday - white blossoms everywhere,
Saturday - already losing the first blossoms,
Sunday - grass around the tree is covered in fallen blossoms and tree is mostly green now"

And in all that time I was sick and then it rained a lot, so there was just ONE afternoon where I could snap a couple of photographs of my blooming cherry-tree ...

I don't know why I feel this is important for me, but it is. I had the same relation-ship to an appletree which my grandma planted next to my window when she still owned the house and garden next door. I absolutely loved this tree. Other trees were "nice", but nothing special to me. But this one I loved. I was extremely sad when she sold her house and garden next to us and moved and the new neighbours cut the tree down :(
    I actually wept. For a cut-down apple-tree. No kidding.

So .... lots of understanding here ^^ and I really hope you do get better soon!
I'm still coughing, too, and have been sporting chipped and ruined nailpolish the last few days ... while I have a whole box of untrieds sitting here next to me, on my desk ...

It's sunny today, so I think I'm gonna try out one of my new Ruby Wings nailpolishes, which change color under sunlight :)

  28. If you want a permanent color, look into Elumen. I don't bleach my hair at all and use Red-Violet. Even though my hair is quite dark, it now looks very purple. I love it. The down side is the Elumen is a pain to apply and may never come out again. I would rather that than having it fade on me.

  31. Hope you feel better soon-- go to the doc, for sure. The exact same pattern of illness happened to me last month, and they put me on the z-pac. I'm still holding onto the last of it, but it's finally trailing away.
