Zoya Spring 2010 Reverie Collection

Aww... fun winter 'vacation' is over.. Back to swatching! And these polishes were actually fun to swatch.

So, what can I say about Zoya's Reverie collection? Well... they're a bajillion times cooler on the nail than they are in the promo pics and the little color chips. They were described to me as having an iridescent 'oil slick' effect and I'd say that's about right. All of these shades have varying levels of multi-colored duochrome/iridescence.

My lighting situation isn't ideal today, so a lot of the cool duochrome effect didn't pick up in the photos. I have a feeling I'm going to be re-doing a whole lot of swatches when the sun comes back this summer.

Adina. Medium lavender-purple base with green, pink, orange, silver and gold duochrome. My favorite of the collection. This is a true duochrome (and by duochrome I mean 'multichrome') where the colors change depending on the angle. It shows mostly silvery green and then when you turn it it shows a pinkish-orange on the edges of the nails. It is definitely not a Ki duplicate and it isn't close to Nubar Peacock Feathers like I originally guessed. I don't have another color that matches this, it's unique. This one is named after Adina of Krasey Beauty. Adina is a real sweetheart so it's super cool she got to have this polish named after her! Though, to be totally honest, I do feel kinda funny about it being a purple/green duochrome named after a blogger. I know, I don't 'own' purple/green duo and I sure as hell didn't invent the combo, it just seems kinda weird to me, that's all. Maybe I shouldn't even mention it. But it is a super amazing color, definitely backup worthy and I know I'll be wearing it a lot.

Gwin. Coral-toned orange with gold, yellow and green iridescence. This one looks a little less red in real life- much more of a bright orange with a bit of coral tone. Reminds me a lot of OPI Bright Lights, Big Color. The multicolor effect is really nice against the bright orange, especially when the green peeks through.

Happi. Bubblegum pink with gold, yellow and green iridescence. This one looks most like an 'oil slick' to me when it's on my nails. I know, the cool effect didn't come through in the pictures. The duochrome is a lot stronger on this one in real life. You can see all the colors at once and the sparkles reflect different colors when the light hits them just right.

Lana. Red-coral with gold, yellow and green iridescence. This is definitely more of a coral to my eye than a true red. Very orangey. The iridescent effect in this one is a little more subtle than in the rest of the shades. This seems like a very amped-up cousin of Tosca. It has that bright, fresh kind of 'fruity' base color with the flashy gold shimmer. I can see this one being really popular in summertime.

Laney. Metallic silver with subtle iridescent effect. The duochrome in this is very subtle- you can just barely see it in the bottle in this picture, but it has sort of a pearly purple and green reflection to it. Looks like different colored lights are reflecting off the nails as if you're standing next to a Christmas tree or something, maybe a television screen? It's a nice silver with a little barely-perceptible something extra to catch your eye.

Reece. Magenta with gold, yellow and green iridescence. This is my second favorite. It is super hot. Yes, I know, it's pink... but this is a really cool pink. It has more of a purple tone to it than a straight pink color and the iridescence makes it really special. It shows the gold and yellow most of the time, but if you catch the light just right the green pops out from the background and it's really fun to watch.

The formula on these was good. Not thick, not thin. Kinda average in thickness. They were a little on the sheer side, so I used three coats of all. You get good coverage on the second coat, but there was too much 'visible nail line' for my liking. I didn't really have any trouble applying them. No streaking, no gooey texture, nothing worth noting in the application department.

Overall, I think this is a really fascinating collection. I didn't think I liked them until I saw them in real life. Pictures don't do them justice. I am a total sucker for duochromey color changing type things! Adina is the strongest duochrome of the collection, then Reece and Happi, and the last three are a lot more subtle in their 'oil slick' effect. The colors are nice and vibrant, and I know it's supposed to be a spring collection but a few of these scream 'summer' to me.

These should be available soon on Zoya.com, but I don't see them up there yet. The release date might be the 10th, I'll have to double check because I can't remember.

(These were sent to me for review.)

  9. I am totally in love with these! Thanks for posting the swatches!! Oh, and don't worry, Scrangie, you do OWN the purple with TEAL shimmer effect in my opinion! I don't see that polish as being anything even remotely close to your incredible RBL creation!

  24. Hmmm, I'm just not feeling these. They feel as though I have seen these shades a million times before, even if I haven't.

These could not be in same league as the RBL Scrangie.

Nonetheless, you make everything look good, Scrangie! :)

  37. Adina is gorgeous! It was probably named after Adina because she loves everything purple so I think it was cute that they would name a purple polish after her. I will probably pick up Happi as well. Thanks for the swatches!

  38. i need gwin and lana - like now.

  39. Reece is a dupe of CG Strawberry Fields. (Or Strawberry Fields is a dupe of Reece)

And how does Adina compare to Sally Hansen's Opulent Cloud?

  40. Ohhh wow. I think I would like to marry that last one. Or at least buy it.
