OPI Alice In Wonderland Collection Spring 2010

Wow... I was so excited about the new Nubar glitters that I forgot to post these yesterday! Oops!

I know these aren't my best pictures, but I had to work with the lighting I had... Less than ideal, but I managed to get a couple clear shots at least.

Absolutely Alice. The color is accurate in the first picture, it's really not as light as it appears in the second picture, but the difference in lighting brings out the gold glitter that isn't as visible in the first picture. This is.... dare I say... the most gorgeous polish OPI has done since My Private Jet. OPI doesn't do glitters often, but when they do... they do them right! I can't even tell you how much I love this polish. I love it even more than China Glaze Dorothy Who? In case you can't tell by the pictures, this is a vibrant medium blue with a splash of shiny gold glitter. It is insanely sparkly.

Mad As A Hatter. Another perfect polish. This is a multicolored glitter. The base looks silver or blackish in these picture, but I don't find that to be the case when I look at my nails in real life. The silver does appear dominant, but what it really reminds me of is Rescue Beauty Lounge Frugalista with a little rainbow glitter tossed in. The purple and silver stand out to me the most, but there's also green and blue and gold and red, maybe a few other colors I can't pin down. The overall effect is a jewel-encrusted look. HOT.

Off With Her Red! An orangey-red creme. This has a soft quality to it- it's not super bright and crisp, it's a little bit dusty. Similar feel to OPI Bullish On OPI. Orangey, dusty. Not terribly exciting but not bad either.

Thanks So Muchness! This is not really a great shot of this, but if you enlarge the picture you can see the interesting detail in the finish. This is your average medium red shimmer with the addition of some light pink shimmery broken flakes. Like someone took a handful of the Nfu Oh flakes and crushed them. Very cool, kinda similar to the 90210 red from Valentine's Day.... I forget which one had the flecks... Pretty & Privileged? This is a lot like that one.

I thought the formula on these was great. Everything was opaque in two coats and applied like a breeze. I have good luck with OPI's formula. I did two coats of everything in these pictures. You can see a tiny bit of nail through the glitter (toward the tips but not really on the nail plate) with two coats, but not enough that it inspired me to do a third. A third coat would probably make them even better, though.

The glitters *were* a huge pain to remove. I normally don't have a problem removing glitter- if anything, they just take a little longer. But for these, they took three times as long. I don't know what's different about these that makes them so much tougher to remove. And, since I've been asked a few times... I don't do anything special to remove glitter. I find that a cotton ball or two soaked with Zoya Remove+ is enough to remove them fairly quickly. Sometimes if I'm feeling lazy I'll use the tub with the bristles, but I find that that takes longer than just cotton balls most of the time. Well... I guess I do one special thing to remove glitter... Here's a confession. Sometimes I peel it off. Thankfully it has no adverse effect on my nails, but... yeah. LOL

I'm extremely happy that OPI took a risk and did some AMAZING glitters instead an entire collection of safe colors. I only wish that the two reds were glitters too!

  1. I love the two glitters!!! When OPI takes a risk, they have great polish. I do get tired of red, red, pink, red though.

  5. How does "Absolutely Alice" compare to Pure Ice "Strappy"? I love glitters, and to remove them I have sworn by the foil method, its the only way to get glitter off, without pulling out all my hair!

  6. Yeah...it's bad, but I found it a LOT easier to just peel off my polish than to take it off with remover. When I wore Almost Alice, I took each nail off in one stroke. Very little scraping on my actual nails either.

  7. I thought I would like to order these two glitters, but after I saw your swatches, I know now that I would HAVE to order them :-)))

  14. I must say i wasn't too impressed with this collection when i saw previews, it just seemed like there was so much more they could have done with an Alice in Wonderland theme, however the 2 glitters are just gorgeous.

  15. A solid Red Glitter would have been hot!

  16. Haha I peel hard to remove colors off too sometimes...I thought I was a sinner for that.

  17. Is there any way go get glitter polish NOT to peel off? I put on Mad as a Hatter at 6:00 last evening and only have polish left on two nails. it seem ANY glitter polish peels right off. Even the RBL's. I used Qtica Natural Nail groth stimulator, extending top coat and drying drops last night, but it seams what ever I use the results are the same. It started lifting after only an hour or two.

  18. Um, is peeling off polish bad? Because for me, it seems like once the polish has reached the end of its natural lifespan, peeling comes very easily.

Forgive the dumb question, I'm new to this whole 'having nails' thing since I've been a biter for the majority of my life.

  23. Love! I did 3 coats of Absolutely Alice and woke up with two bare fingers! The polish had peeled off in one piece! Hopefully next time just doing 2 coats will help this.

  24. Aw, man. I was totally pumped for this collection because I thought it was a cool theme, but I don't actually like any of them. :/

Your swatches are perfect as always though. :)

  25. Has anyone considered doing one coat of MAAH over a dark nail polish? I think it would look awesome over a solid black creme. *sigh*, I will have to wait til my bottles arrive to try it ;-)

  26. i love all of them !!
i wait my order from transdesign !!!! can't wait

  27. The glitters are the only thing they got right with this collection which is sad because I'm not a glitter lover. AA is pretty but not even that one is making me want to buy. It's a very *meh* collection. Boo OPI.

  28. the glitters are fantastic... i'm waiting for my bottle of mad as a hatter to arrive. yesterday i found an old dried up bottle of red glitter nail polish and i was wondering if your trick with seche restore works on glitters too. i might just try it anyway.

  29. The blue glitter rocks! I've been turning away from OPI for a while now just cause the colours were boring me but that blue is enough to bring me back.

  30. Thanks for the detail about the 'Thanks so Muchness' flakeys. I'd missed that tidbit. Yay!

I'm not a huge glitter fan because I like changing my polish for the fun of it, but glitter makes it too much like work.

  31. I think AA will easily the best OPI of the year. I've already bought 2 back ups (my only back ups ever). I think I'm going to stockpile it like I'm on Hoarders. LOL.

  32. I picked up Absolutely Alice, Mad as a Hatter, and Off With Her Red today. I'm wearing Absolutely Alice right now and I must say it's to die for! And I only needed one coat of top coat to smooth it out, but went for a second just in case. Fabulous!

  33. I'm wearing Mad as A Hatter right now for the first time and I already need lots and lots of back-ups!!!!
A little while back you reviewed Amour Rain Glitter, can you do a side by side with MaaH?

  34. *whispers* sometimes I peel my NP off too

  35. The blue glitters are great, but I don't like the multi colored glitters as much as I thought. I fell in love with 'Thanks', it's a great shade and I love the flakes in it :)

  36. As someone that asked recently thanks for the info on removing glitters! Am all for peeling myself given how remover seems to wreck my hands, although on my dry nails its not such a good idea. Yours nails really are a source of major envy btw!

  37. Hey Girl,

Your blog is really one of my favorites. Just wanted to say that. I love how "real" you are....just a gal who loves polish.

And- your blog...and pics...are what really pushed me over the edge into polish whoredom...which...I love lol. I found your blog before I found MUA....or actually, I found mua after reading about it on your blog.

Keep it up!!! Hope your blog will be around for a long time to come!!!

  39. I am having the same problem as Sheila and Keri where I put on Mad as a Hatter and the next day it is coming off in chunks. I used OPI start to finish as a base coat and seche vite as a top coat. Any recommendations on how to prevent this from chipping so fast? It really is a fabulous color.

  40. I was so lucky to stumble into my corner Pure Beauty store because they literally received a shipment of these colors. And since I'm a regular - one of the sales associates let me dig through the OPI boxes and pick the ones I wanted. I picked up Absolutely Alice and Mad as Hatter. I can't wait for my next Pedi - now I just have to decide what color to do first!!

  43. I would love to see a comparison between OPI - Off Her With Red & OPI - Red My Fortune Cookie (and maybe with other bright red cremes). It would be great if you'll do that for me. Thank you!
