Finger Paints Winter/Holiday Collection 2009

I don't think I've posted much about Finger Paints before... That's not because I don't like it! I do like Finger Paints, a lot. Especially this newest collection released for the Holiday season. It's just that you can only get them at Sally Beauty... and I have to really be in the mood to be frustrated to go there. *ahem* I won't turn this into a rant about how I'm treated when I visit Sally, so on to the pics!

I wish I was able to get better pictures of these, but the sun seems to be hibernating.

Candy Cane Shimmer. A light pink-toned red with tons of shimmer. I am not usually a red person, but I had to have this. Look at the shimmer. The shimmer! It's big, chunky iridescent shimmer. Kind of like glass fleck.

Decked With Dazzle. Light mauve-pink with big multicolored shimmer particles. This amazing shimmer even made me want pink. There's gold, silvery-white, pink, violet, iridescent... All kinds of different flecks of shimmer combined to make a soft sparkly sugar plum pink.

Evergreen Dream. This is such a ridiculously perfect color. I can't believe how awesome this is. The second picture was taken with flash to show the base color and the shimmer particles. It has enough yellow to it to make me happy and so much shimmer that it sparkles even indoors. There might be a little glitter mixed in, but it's mostly really dense large particle shimmer. Great job, Finger Paints!! A total masterpiece.

Icy Iris. I really wish my pictures of this turned out. I just couldn't hold my hands still! This is a rich, dark, deep purple with different colors of shimmer. Eggplant and amethyst. Some of the shimmer is more red-toned purple and some is more blue-toned. The base is very dark and the shimmer looks positively electric when the light catches it. This doesn't look black indoors to me. It has too much amazing color-shifting shimmer to look too dark or flat. Again, amazing, a total work of art!

Snowman's Scarf. This is a terrible picture. It doesn't really show what the polish looks like, so I'll do my best to describe it. It's the same shade of bright medium red, but it has a lot of really fine bright gold shimmer. It's not the large glass-flecky iridescent shimmer that's in the other polishes. This shimmer is like fine gold dust, very very smooth but very bright and reflective. Red and gold look really good together.

Sparkling Snow. A light snowy silver made of different colored flecks of shimmer. Some of the shimmer in this is white, some is silver, a little bit even looks iridescent. This is a lot more delicate and icy than Easel Come, Easel Go. It's light and soft looking. I'd even call it a feminine silver. Very sparkly.

The formula on these was good. I didn't really have a problem with them. They were a little three-freeish -thick but runny- but not severe. The brushes are good but the tapered handle is slightly awkward feeling in my hand. All minor issues. These are pretty solid polishes- good colors, good formula, good bottles and brushes. I did three coats of each color. Only Decked With Dazzle and and Sparkling Snow really needed the third coat, you could really get away with two on the rest of the shades. Drying time was average.

Overall, I am really in love with this collection. The colors are perfect! Lots and lots of iridescent shimmer. Purple, green! Even the reds are great. This is a lot better than the past few collections I've seen Finger Paints do. I think last year's winter/holiday collection was kind of like this too, with all the glass fleck-esque shimmer and fun colors, but my Sally never got them! Boo!

Can't wait to see what they do next, but I don't think anything can top Evergreen Dream.

  1. Thank you so much for those swatches! Or not! I saw them at Sally's and was almost tempted, but chalked up not buying them to lack of swatches...so my wallet was happy. But now that you have swatches some of those may, in fact, need to come home with me. I don't supposed you have seen the small exclusive OPI four-packs at Ulta? Tiny Tinsels or something? My sister fell in love with the purple one (amethyst twist), but it's only in that mini-set. I was hoping Icy Iris was a dupe? Another blogger posted some small and.... less than clear pictures comparing the two, but I was hoping you would have something bigger and better taken for comparison. :) Your polish swatches are always the best.

  2. I like this collection better than OPI's Holiday collection. I've never used Finger Paints. These really are some beautiful shades. They all look fantastic on you as per usual.

  4. I really agree with Sara, your polish swatches are the best! I look up your blog every night to see what new colors you have. So your vacation was a hard time for me, because there weren't any new pics ;)
And yeah, I did miss you ;)

I haven't seen FingerPaints in Germany yet, so I suppose I will never lay my hands on one of those beauties, but the colors are really pretty, I like this collection.

So, have a nice evening and please keep showering us with your beautiful swatches and photos, I really look forward to browsing your blog each evening after work.

    Bye,
    Sylvie

  5. I love that pink one! But I hate going to Sally's too. I wish they actually had employees that knew what they were doing. At least the one closest to me is like this.

  7. I really like Finger Paints.
My biggest complaint is that there is never enough information about their upcoming releases.

The purple will be mine ;)

  9. I like my local Sallys less & less every time I go (there are 5 stores close to me & they are all staffed by idiots), but I'll make an exception for these! The purple & the green for sure & maybe a few of the others =)

  10. I didn't pick up Evergreen Dream because it looked like a dupe of China Glaze Emerald Sparkle. Do you think they're different enough to warrant purchasing both???

  11. Evergreen Dream looks beautiful! I was digging through my nail polish collection this past weekend, trying to find a nice dark green. I wound up with a color from Wet'n'Wild, but it took tons of coats to get it dark enough. I might just have to pick that color up, and Snowmans Scarf. :) Thank you for the review!

  13. Sara, have you checked your local Ulta recently? I visited mine just two days ago and saw Amethyst Twist available in full sizes.

  14. I have both the purple and the green and damn, I love them. After seeing these swatches, I may need the reds...Must resist.

And I have to admit, everytime I've been to the ONE Sally's in my location, whoever working there never knows anything about nail polish. I'm always really surprised. Only the owner seems to know what's going on. It's sad.

  15. Seriously, Irene?! I was just there on Saturday and only saw the tiny packs. An online search after getting back home turned up nothing - just that it was only in the tiny sets. I've got another Ulta coupon that started yesterday, maybe I'll stop by again this weekend. Though, the nail polish displays (particularly the new collections) are always these awful picked over empty racks with the wrong bottles in them.

  17. Scrangie your swatches are gorgeous! In my opinion FingerPaints does glass flecked polishes 2nd best...China Glaze is first of course :D

  19. Thank you for the swatches - so rare to see Fingerpaints reviewed. (Though I hate the skinny brush.)

How does Evergreen Dream compare with Greener from Nubar?

  20. I just had to go pick up Decked With Dazzle and Icy Iris. I can't say no to all the pretty pictures!

  21. Yeah! Too bad I have Easel Come already, or i'd be picking up that lighter silver glittery one!

    Do love the green...

  22. icy iris, is this dupey to anything else in the FP line?

  23. Wow, you mean people interact with you at your Sally's? They scatter like roaches anytime I step in the door of mine. I could walk out the front door with an armload of stuff and never see a soul. I usually have to do a little dance in front of the register to get anyone to come check me out.

  24. Icy Iris is MINE! ;) Thanks for the (as usual) fantabulous photos!! I've been trying reeeeally hard to STOP buying nail polish, but DANG you make it so hard!! ;D

I have a couple of Finger Paints and must say I adore them! Application is MUCH better than China Glaze! I'm wearing FP's gorgeous Magenta Mood over black polish right now! So sparkly, sexy 'n' simply stunning!! ;D

  25. Just a heads up, all of the colors seem to be available on their website except Evergreen Dream.

  26. Thanks for doing swatches of this collection, Scrangie! I limited myself to Icy Iris, Evergreen Dream, and Decked With Dazzle last time I was at Sally's. I keep wanting to go back for Snowman's Scarf, though... red + gold shimmer = love. And now I want the silver one too! Sorry to hear that the SA's at your local Sally's don't treat you well. :(

  28. I need Decked With Dazzle and Icy Iris. Scrangie, you're an evil temptress.

  29. I picked up Icy Iris today and I'm wearing it on tips and toes. GORGEOUS! The shimmer in it is amazing <3

  30. I caved in - purchased Icy Iris (after all Ulta's were out of OPI Sugarplum) and Decked with Dazzle. I put on Decked on Friday evening and hated it - felt like Barbie. but wore a lot of black outfits this weekend and then felt like punk Barbie and now I love this color. Is it possible it "settled in". Anyway, I am halfway wanting to put on Icy Iris tonight but know I will do a bad job so I will wait until tomorrow. Thank you so much for your swatches and 4-1-1 on all the new colors. I love your writing style too.
