Color Club Spring 2010 Rebel Debutante

The first of Color Club's spring offerings this year is called 'Rebel Debutante' and it's really different from what I'm used to from Color Club! Very unexpected. All cremes!

Best Dressed List. Looks like a nice fleshy light brown on me. Sort of a nude shade. Soft and flattering on my skin tone but I can see this shade working on a variety of tones.

Charity Ball. Oooh... yuck.

Gossip Column. Very nice rich medium teal. A little more on the blue side than the green side of teal, but not quite as blue as it looks in my picture.

High Society. Soft mousy grey with a little something more to it.... maybe a really subtle purple or reddish undertone? It gives the grey here a little extra richness and I can't quite place what it is.

Ms. Socialite. Medium red-toned purple creme. Love this one! Even though it's not really a bright shade, it still stands out.

Rebel Debutante. Ah, that's more like it. For a collection called 'Rebel Debutante', this seems to be the only rebellious color! It's a soft neon green. I know, that makes no sense, but picture it... A very soft, sort of light and almost pastel shade of green but with neon glow and intensity. I couldn't capture this color in pictures, it freaked out my camera.

She's Soooo Glam. A rich looking light pink. Very dense and opaque. I like the tone of this one, it looks half cute and half super 80's. I didn't quite capture the color in this picture, either. It looks better in real life.... richer... pinker. Different, another feature that I can't pinpoint.

Uptown Girl. Soft dusty mauvey lavender. We've seen a lot of colors like this in the last two years and that's a-okay with me! I personally love this type of shade.

Who Are You Wearing? A light white or dove grey with a subtle touch of lavender. Sort of like a creme version of Urban Decay's White Widow. Kinda spooky looking. Interesting. I like it, this is my second favorite of the collection for sure.

The formula was good. Standard Color Club formula, no real issues. I like that they seem to be really consistent. Maybe it's cause they're all cremes, but they all applied identically. This is two coats of all.

Overall, I'm 50/50 on this collection. I like almost all the shades (except Charity Ball, first time I've ever said yuck about a Color Club shade! Sadness) but they don't seem totally unique. But, more so, they don't seem like the Color Club I know and love! There's not much variety or innovation like I've seen in past Color Club sets. They're kinda sleepy, not lively. That's not to say I don't like this collection, because I do like the colors and the formula, it just seems... different. It doesn't seem to have that trademark Color Club spark. Color Club's other two spring collections more than make up for the lack of variety and excitement here, at least.

Neons and glitters are coming :)

(These were sent to me for review.)

  1. I just tried these polishes, too! I really liked Rebel Debutante, Who Are You Wearing?, and Gossip Column. I agree, these aren't your typical Color Club polishes. But I'm also looking forward to the brighter colors :) Great swatches, as always.

  2. I love the dusty colours, especially Gossip Column. Great swatches. :)

  3. The only one I really like is Rebel Debutante. I'm not a big creme fan though, so I can see why these don't excite me.

  4. Thanks for posting Scrangie. I never form a full opinion about a collection until I see your photos.

  5. There are only 3 colors from this collection that I like. I was debating on getting this collection on my recent polish order and am glad I did not. I am going to be putting in another order for High Society, Rebel Debutante, and Uptown girl (I love colors like this too!).

  6. Whaaaat Charity Ball is pretty!

  7. I think they're kinda...boring

  8. Those are all so gorgeous, I can't even pick a favorite!

  9. I liked this collection, I can't wear glitter everyday, so i like to see softer shades done right. So many times muted shades are so sheer, but these are toned down but still interesting.

  10. The only one I like is the blue-teal shade. Thank you for the swatches though! I was curious about these colors.

  11. Hahaha...that is exactly what I said when I swatched Charity Ball!
I think CC had a bad hangover when deciding on these. Some are nice colors and Rebel Debutante is awesome but this just isn't "my" Color club.

  12. These do seem kind of boring for a collection with "rebel" in the name. Though, I must say that Rebel Debutante is already on order. :o)

  13. Ooooh I think I need these! Maybe all of them...
Damn you woman, you make everything look amazing!

  14. Thanks! I see a few colours that I like. Where in Canada can I find the Color Club brand?

Love the blog! I check it almost daily.

  15. I was nodding off looking at these colors. Thanks for swatching, though.

  17. Hi Scrangie,

Some of the colours are pretty, but I agree with you about the sleep-inducing nature of this collection. It seems kind of safe overall.

Rebecca, head2toebeauty delivers to Canada, as does 8ty8. Otherwise, you may be able to find it in some Trade Secrets stores. Good luck!

  20. Yay! I'm so glad I ordered these! All except the one you said yuck about, since it was my impression of it as well from pictures. Thanks so much for the swatches!

  22. That purple is to DIE for. I love it so much!!!

  23. Not the most exciting collection in the world, but I still want half of these. :P Uptown Girl (I love those shades too!), Who Are You Wearing, High Society, Ms. Socialite, Gossip Column. They will be mine.

  24. SWEET! Great swatches, thanks for doing it. BDL looks interesting, the grey is probably not warm enough for me, but I still have a bottle of chinchilly and that's good enough for me. WTF is up with that red? It's a ...creme...brick...bloody.. I dunno. I normally love blood reds but there's something muddy about that. Maybe it would look better half and halfed with some clear?

  25. I think I love them all. I smell financial distress in the air. My tax return is spent but I think I must own these. They look beautiful on you - even the one you don't like!

  26. Actually I'd say "Oooh... yuck" about almost all of them.

  27. I don't think Charity Ball looks bad on you at all! The collection is nice enough but I don't see any "must have" colors for me. Thanks as always for your great swatches!

  28. I love cremes so I am liking this collection more and more the more I see posted. I do think that it seems more "demure debutante" than rebel, which is what has been confusing me. Thanks for these great pics and the review!!!

  29. It's so crazy because Charity Ball is the only one that is actually kind of new and exciting. Perhaps not all complexions can wear that color.
    I love it!

  30. Not a creme fan here but what surprised me is that it's all creme. Ah, saving more money for future collections....

  31. She's Soooo Glam is nice, any OPI dupes for that one?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like the purples and the green. I just don't get why they called it Rebel? Beautiful nails and swatches as always.

  33. Amazing colors...
    I love these!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love creme but it seems that some colours are "deja-vu". I'd buy only Best Dressed List, High Society and Who are you wearing? (not that rebel ^_^).
    Thank you for swatching them!

  35. Thank you for the swatches! I knew I want "Rebel Deputante" but after seeing these, I think I'll need also "Who are you wearing?" :)

  37. I love Rebel Debutante, She's so Glam and Who are You Wearing. I honestly can't tell if the colours themselves are gorgeous or it's just your beautiful nails that makes them look amazing, though XD

Anyway, if you have the time do you think it's possible if you could do a post reccing nice red creme nail polishes? I love the colour of Essie's Red Noveau you posted a couple of entries back, but Essie is not readily available around these parts. Is there a China Glaze, Orly or OPI alternative you could recommend?

Great job with this blog, btw :D

  38. I can't help it, but I kinda like Charity Ball... might be my 2nd favorite after Uptown Girl.

  39. I like most of these colors. I just ordered some the other dat and can't wait for them to get here!

  40. Hey Scrangie. I love your website. It's really helpful. I live in Canada and these brands aren't openly available like china glaze, color club, orly, etc. So I usually order them online. And I use your pictures to help me see how the colour really looks like. So I just wanted you to know your website is amazing (although I know you didn't need me to tell you that) and I'm very thankful to have come across it.

  41. I didn't even know about this collection, it's so lovely! I own few of their polishes and they have an excellent formula and the apply easily which I love. And the best of all - they're so cheap! :)

  42. Hi Scrangie,

is Best Dressed List compareble to OPI Barefoot in Barcelona?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  43. OMG, they're GORGEOUS ! Each and everyone of them ! I didn't know this brand, thanks for posting about it !

  44. i can never find any good cremes, but these look nice. i did have a question. is there a particular retail store where i can buy color club nail polishes? i seem to have trouble finding zoya & color club :(

  45. I'm loving the blue one Gossip Column. Where do these sell and for how much?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I just recently joined your blog. I think your swatches are great. I realize that most of the products you use are sent to you for review I would like to know if there is a website or store you would suggest to find these products? Thanks and I look forward to reading your blog.

  47. I just got rebel debutante and my turned out to be a dark almost hunter green. i was disappointed :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. "High Society" looks more like the color of pidgeon poop to me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. OMG I want Gossip Column. It's almost a perfect dupe for a MAC color that is totally escaping my mind right now.. something India. But anyway, the bottles I see on Ebay look nothing like your bottle, so I am afraid to buy it from those sellers!
