Sally Hansen Gem Crush Collection Swatches and Review

Sally Hansen has added an entire glitter collection to their permanent lineup. It's called the Gem Crush collection and it consists of eight full-coverage glitters. Each glitter is a mixture of two different shapes, sizes and colors of glitter, very similar to the China Glaze Eye Candy 3D glitters. The colors are:

01 Showgirl Chic - 02 Cha-Ching! - 03 Big Money - 04 Blingtastic - 05 Be-jeweled - 06 Razzle Dazzler - 07 Lady Luck - 08 Glitz Gal

Sally Hansen Be-Jeweled. Small light purple glitter and larger (but still small) faded rose pink glitter in a clear base. I think there's also a tiny, tiny sprinkling of hologram glitter in here, too, but I only see it in certain lights, and only a particle or two here and there.

Sally Hansen Big Money. A small, slightly green toned gold glitter with larger, round light purple glitter in a clear base.

Big money, no Whammies!

Sally Hansen Blingtastic. Larger sized aqua blue glitter with large silver hexagon glitter in a clear base. This one is the oddball in the collection. The base glitter is a different shape and size and the application is nowhere near as nice as the others.

Sally Hansen Cha-Ching! Small, bright red glitter and larger round silver glitter in a clear base.

Sally Hansen Glitz Gal. Small dark grey and silver glitter and larger round hologram glitter in a clear base. I probably own four or five polishes just like it, but I still get googly-eyed over this color combination every time I see it. Dark grey and holo are just so good together.

Sally Hansen Lady Luck. A small dark fuchsia glitter and a larger round hologram glitter in a clear base. Gorgeous.

Sally Hansen Razzle Dazzler. A light rosy pink glitter with larger round silver glitter in a clear base.

Sally Hansen Showgirl Chic. Small silver glitter and larger round blue glitter in a clear base.

The formula on most of these was good. Thin, fairly smooth, not difficult to apply. The only one that gave me trouble was Blingtastic because it was sheerer, more gooey and had less coverage than the rest of the colors. They need a minute or two to set in between coats to prevent clumping, but other than that, no problems. I did three coats of each plus one coat of topcoat for these pictures and coverage was perfect at three. Dry time is good. They're very gritty and they devour topcoat, so I'd recommend a coat of Gelous (or plain clear polish) before your quick dry topcoat, and then another coat of Gelous the next day to restore the shine.

These look way better on the nail than they do in the bottle. They actually look a little dull in the bottle, but not so on the nails. Very shiny and sparkly. I like all but Blingtastic. Some of these are dupes of the China Glaze Eye Candy glitters, but if you don't already have those, these are definitely worth a look. They're actually more expensive at $6-$8 per bottle retail than ordering the China Glaze Eye Candy polishes online ($3.50-$4), but, being drugstore polishes, they will go on sale every now and then (they're currently buy one, get one 50% off at Ulta), so it evens out eventually.

The Sally Hansen Gem Crush Glitter Polish collection is available at drugstores now. As far as I'm aware, they are not limited edition.

    1. Whoops, I knew I forgot something! That's three coats of each plus topcoat. Will add that to my post! Thank you :)

  4. When I was little, I wanted to go on Press Your Luck and get ONLY Whammies, lol. I was an odd child. My mom even had to make me a "buzzer" so I could play along with the tv (and subsequently get angry when they won anything)

I'm glad SH has put out these glitter polishes. They mostly look like different polishes I have, but it's nice to know I can stop hoarding the LE ones since there is something out there I can replace them with.

  7. These are so gorgeous! I saw them in the store and passed on them. Now I have to go back to get them!

  8. I've been waiting forever for you to post this review :) The only way I'd even remotely TOUCH these polishes was if they got a good review from you lol. The swatch-fest is to die for too.

  9. I had seen them in the bottle & was not impressed, but you are right - they do look better on the nail.

  10. I'm loving Razzle Dazzle. It's totally got me thinking of Richard Gere in Chicago, too. ;)

  11. These are pretty! I want them all except for showgirl chic, it's too close to Lorelei's Tiara which I have.

  12. Fie on you, you enabler (LOL)! Now I need Be-Jeweled (and maybe Razzle Dazzler), and I'm not really a "nail girl" (I just like your blog)!

  13. A number of these are dupes of the WnW coloricon collex, too.

Big Money was the only one that was really unique and I adore it!

    Thanks for the swatches!!

  14. I really love the Big Money one. Every time I would go into Rite Aid, I would have to look at it, until I finally gave it to my mom and said 'Birthday present'. This was in about February and it's still not my birthday yet. :)

  15. Even though I had dupes for some of these, I still had to buy them all. That Sally Hansen sure has got my number. :)

  16. They're gorgeous, but I have most of the China Glaze dupes. The only one I really want is Big Money and Be-Jeweled. I actually have Wet N Wild It's All In The Cut which is a dupe of it, but the bottle is so small so I'd like a back up.

  17. I thought Lady Luck and Big Money were the most unique of all of these. I got them and Bejeweled. I was disappointed with Big Money though, because the purple glitter didn't show thru on the nail to me as well as it looks in the bottle.

  18. Be-Jeweled looks to be the most unique of all of them.

  19. Ooh, I want to pick up Lady Luck! Still on the hunt for these!

  20. I have Be-Jeweled, and it is amazingly shiny and attention getting.

However, I had the problem that even though I used my usual base coat (China Glaze) and top coat (Seche Vite), after about 2 days the polish started popping off my nails. Completely - it looked like one big fake nail and surprised the heck out of me the first time it happened! I've never had this happen with any other Sally Hansen or glitter polish.

The silver lining is that this made this the easiest removal of a glitter polish I've ever done :).

  21. I've tried one of them (Lady Luck) and it's gorgeous..but I DID use two coats of top coat and after like a day it started chipping off my nails in big flakes..i could literally peel all the polish off..didnt even use polish remover..so that part sucks...doesnt last long on the nail.

  22. They are all super gorgeous but Lady Luck is probably the only unique one!

  23. Haha!! I almost bought some of these yesterday, but thought to myself "I wonder if there's a Scrangie review?" Thanks for the perfect timing!

  24. Showgirl Chic reminds me of Deborah Lipman Mermaid's Dreams

  25. Oooh, I really like Big Money, Glitz Gal and Lady Luck. Lady Luck looks absolutely gorgeous on, I wouldn't have anticipated it from just looking at the bottle.

  26. why aren't my country getting sch awesome Sally Hansen nail polishes? why oh why?

  27. Okay I know I'm going to give away my newbie status, but when y'all say gelous are you talking about the American classics gelous that you can get at Sally's? With the green top?

    1. Yep, that's the one! That stuff is an all-purpose miracle. Awesome as a basecoat, perfect as a pre-topcoat layer for smoothing out glitters, the best thing for restoring shine on a day old manicure... love that stuff.

  28. I think these are better than the Eye Candy polishes, or at least Material Girl. No matter what I do, I can't get it to apply any better than a thick, gloopy mess that no amount of topcoating can tame. So yeah, I think go for the SH ones over the CG ones if someone had a choice between the two.

  29. Oh my gosh these polishes are sooo pretty! I wish they were available in the UK *cries*

  30. I love Be-Jeweled because I'm a 7 year old at heart and it looks like something a princess would wear. I also like Big Money but I'm not gonna spend that much on a drug store polish. I don't even pay full retail for my OPIs and Essies, I'm definitely not going to spend that much on a Sally Hansen! Maybe when they're on sale. Great swatches, as always :]

  31. Glitz Gal looks like a dupe for China Glaze Some Like it Haute. And I feel like I've seen a dupe for Showgirl Chic as well. Lady Luck is gorgeous though!

  32. Do you think Glitz Gal could be a dupe for China Glaze Some Like It Haute?

  33. I bought showgirl chic today, but here in Australia it cost me $9 at the supermarket in the beauty isle. I have yet to try it out, but the swatch photos you took are gorgeous! Also, does that gelous base/topcoat need a uv lamp? Or is it just a regular "uv gel look" topcoat?

    1. No UV lamp required, thankfully! I don't know why they call it a 'gel coat'- it's really just thick, clear polish. Not sure it even really resembles gel, but it sure does rock for smoothing out glitters. haha

  39. Ad beautiful as these polishes are..... disappointing!!!!! The polish starts to chip off within a few hours :( I've tried using it with a bottom coat, worth a top coat and without. Nothing seems to keep it from peeling off in big chunks. Such a waste of money and beauty if it won't stay on.

  42. Hi
I know is been a while since you wrote this feature.
But we have only just got SAlly Habseb Sally Hansen Glitz to Denmark.
And then I hope you could tell me which one do you think is the best, the China Glaze Some Like It Haute or the Sally Hansen Glitz Gal?

    Thank you in advance
PS: I love your site :)

    Kind regards

    1. Hi Pia :)

Well, both of the polishes are almost exactly the same... I think I like the formula and brush of the China Glaze one a little bit more. Hard to choose since they're so very similar! You should probably pick whichever one costs less for you :)
